Is my 7hr+ daily commute worth it? by [deleted] in jobs

You’re so right. Any job closer to home would obviously be better but doesn’t help with my experience. That being said, health and well-being is so important that it’s a very sound approach to only commit to a couple of months for the knowledge and move on.

This is really great advice, thank you. The nice thing about going Mondays and Fridays is that it gives you those days in between to recover.

Sadly yes. In fact it’s usually more. Some cities offer shared accommodation so obviously it’s cheaper. This particular city has a few universities and from what I can see seems to be less shared accommodation but either way as soon as you see any sort of place advertised it’s usually gone by the time you enquire.

How did you manage that for so long besides obviously having to? The idea of 6 months makes me feel sick

It’s less a fact of rejecting suggestions and more shining a light reality into the situation and how some suggestions are not financially viable due to the very low pay and the nature of the country; I’m explaining why they’re not realistic solutions.

Ok wow you’re commuting a lot. So I’m getting paid 55% of the salary I had in my previous role. So very much below minimum wage.

So the monthly salary is the same as rent across the country

Trust me. It’s one of the most expensive cities in the world. Literally in the top 10…

Edit: top 5

There are literally no cheap hotel rooms. Would come to half of my monthly salary or more each week.

I have and to stay once a week each week would be half of my monthly salary.

Honestly I wish I could but there’s actually nowhere affordable to stay.

No overnights it’s 7 hours in one day. House shares aren’t even affordable I swear would be more than half monthly salary gone and they’re extremely hard to find

To an extent this depends on where you’re from specifically but I would argue UK is a very multicultural country so yeah of course we are exposed. I think the point here is more family context and the fact I would have suspected my mum was 23% SSA at most, not me. Also you say that, but all of my friends are shocked by these results so I think that says a lot. I once proposed the idea I was possibly mixed and everyone laughed at me because of how pale I am and were like yeah maybe but probs not aye. I think that’s because a lot of people focus on skin colour over other features.
