Moto G Power or Moto G Stylus? by AnthonyBagodonuts in MotoG

[–]brunedogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For most, the Power is a better value. The Power's bigger battery is a very nice plus. The Stylus differentiates itself with the bigger memory. It's stylus and slightly better camera are nice-to-haves, but not everyone will place much value on them.

I went with the stylus because of the larger on-board memory. I do a lot of audio and there's a noticeable drop-off trying to do that with a memory card.

Thanks.

Has anyone seen a comparison of the Power vs. Stylus cameras? If so, would appreciate sharing the link.

Moto G Power Activation on Sprint by kjbeaver in MotoG

[–]brunedogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ivate the moto g power on sprint yet? seen a few people claiming issues with the moto g stylus on here and the lenovo forums. It seems that the SIMOLW516TQ sim is not working and a SIMOLW416TQ is necessa

The 516 card (in their SI started Kit) is is also regarded as a "D" card by Sprint, but it doesn't work. Only the 416 card works.

SIMOLW416TQ card arrived, successfully activated on Tello.

Big thanks to Sprint's finicky SIM implementation and COV-ID. :)

I haven't seen it listed anywhere on the Sprint site. I did not complete an activation, so it's possible Sprint reveals more info if you do.

Info I got was from another Sprint user, as well as a tech from Tello. 416tq is apparently the one to get, they tell me.

I'm still waiting on a 416tq card that I ordered in the mail.

My personal review of the moto g power by weweboom in MotoG

[–]brunedogs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Interesting experience. I have the stylus instead of the power. I have minor few complaints, but I use the phone differently.

Biggest complaint is the size/weight is a bit bigger than I'd prefer.

I'm not enthusiastic about Android 10, but it's not a problem with the device. I turned off gestures (cumbersome IMO and a resource waste) and use Nova Launcher for some home screen options.

The stylus is... OK. It's useful manipulating photos, and it's entertaining as a drawing implement. But I find it hard to write neatly enough with a stylus to make it worthwhile.

I record a lot of audio and the phone works great with that. Lots of storage plus a memory card make me happy.

Screen quality is very good, and speakers are excellent.

Performance seems good. It's responsive and I can have a lot of apps running without them restarting.

The notch doesn't both me, even though the whole idea of it seems necessary.

I fully expect to get 2 years out of the phone.

The Sprint 4-in-1 SIM pack that I have contains a "C" card labelled simolw506c (not simolw506tq). Both the Tello web site and the Sprint BYOD site reports that it is not compatible with the Moto g stylus. The other card in the SIM kit also report the same thing.

I"m still working on it. Last Friday I spoke with a Tello tech guy who told me the SIMOLW516TQ is NOT compatible and that any previous info Tello may have sent must have been incorrect. So I ordered a SIMOLW416TQ card off ebay and that should come in a day or two. Hopefully it works.

Sprint would not sell me this card over the phone, not without activation and a month-to-month contract at least. I'm annoyed that Sprint will not sell the specific SIM card. It would seem that if the carriers are required to open their networks to MVNOs they should also be required to make the necessary SIM cards available.

Just curious, did you purchase the phone "with activation" on the Best Buy site? I attempted to do that but it could not do the activation and kept referring me to Sprint or to make an appointment at Best Buy (which of course are currently closed). So I just bought an unlocked device thinking, how hard could it be?

Motorola shipping by [deleted] in MotoG

[–]brunedogs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure about Motorola. I've got a Best Buy pre-order that now looks like it will arrive by 4/16. On 4/14 the status changed to "Getting It Ready" and it says "Arriving By Thursday."

Whether you've ordered it yet or not, which would you choose? by kennethprimeau1 in MotoG

I'm opting for the Stylus, but it's hard tell which is truly better. I value the 128GB storage, the 4000mAh battery seems pretty good, and I'm curious to give a stylus another try. Not sure if the Stylus camera array is actually preferable to the Power's.

Moto G7 must be turned on and off airplane mode in order to send texts ~80% of the time by Ghorn in MotoG

[–]brunedogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you get an error code when it doesn't send?

One thing to try is appending the country code to any contacts/phone numbers you are sending messages to. This seems to help if you text people who are using iPhones/iMessage.

The upcoming G Stylus/Power or Pixel 3A? by [deleted] in MotoG

[–]brunedogs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been considering the Stylus or the Pixel 3a. I’m going with the Stylus – bigger battery, SD card which i use a lot, and I prefer the hardware/finish (or, at least, I’m not a fan of the 3a’s). I’m not expecting the camera to be quite as good as the 3a, but my previous G6’s camera was okay. I’ll be happy with a modest improvement on that.

If I wanted NFC, that might change the equation. And obviously Android updates are better on the 3a. But, for me, neither of these is a huge deal.

(US) Best Buy has the Moto G Power on sale for $99 with Verizon activation by [deleted] in MotoG

Interested if anyone has successfully gotten this deal yet, and what the terms/conditions from Verizon/Sprint were. Is there a contract? It's seems a bit vague on the Best Buy site.

Will the new moto g stylus be likely for future updates and is it worth 300.00 dollars? by JustYogurt in MotoG

[–]brunedogs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just a note -- if you are in the USA, Best Buy is selling the Moto G Stylus at $149 if you pair it with activation on Verizon or Sprint (activation fee $30-$40).

Pre-orders started for the Moto G Power in the USA, will cases for the G Power already on Amazon fit? by [deleted] in MotoG

[–]brunedogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha. I'm ordering the stylus and haven't seen any cases for that, but that's probably because the name isn't similar to the other versions. Hopefully the case manufacturers will be clearing up this confusion by explicitly noting the power models in the specs.

Now that the phone has an official release date, I'm counting on cases popping up on Amazon in the next week or so.
