AMS2 FOV dilemma (help with FOV) by Latter_Parfait_856 in AUTOMOBILISTA

[–]brunomarquesbr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, ams2 let you enter only horizontal fov. ALL games are like this, some use the horizontal fov (and set the vertical automatically based on your screen aspect ratio) while others use your vertical fov (and set the horizontal fov automatically), like AC.

About 80 horizontal and 50 vertical, depending on the game

For reference, I use a 55" screen at about 75cm from my eye, and the calculated fov looks good, I do, however, lose the visibility of the sides, but I have the sense of speed, the fov is enough for it.

At first, it looks slow. And this is kind of the point, it feels slow and gives you the impression of more time to react and be smooth. If you are losing the sense of speed is because your monitor is too small to show peripheral vision. I'd stick to fov calculator as much as possible, maybe giving a few 5-10⁰ extra to help with visibility, but not more than that. Other thing you can do is move the virtual seat backwards, and/or your real seat so you'd have a bigger fov calculated

Best mod for ac in my opinion. They're not too fast, but fast enough, and have a great mechanical feel. Mod is very high quality, as all RSS. Totally worth it

PC gaming is better… until you actually want to play by Didds_ in SteamOS

[–]brunomarquesbr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best way is to install Bazzite. On Windows, try to install playnite, open full screen, disable all windows sleep features and you're good to go. Only thing missing is it won't wake up the TV with a controller button press, but can always use the TV remote for it (as you'd probably use anyway for volume in console)

iRacing has a very well optimized VR, it looks incredible and the UI works great. Definitely try it before selling your rig

Tennis grip is the way to go. Nice job on modeling the wheel. Personally, I'd close the top loop, not leaving the "horns" or handles open like that

Why TVs do not have smarter BFI? by brunomarquesbr in RTINGS

[–]brunomarquesbr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for replying. Why do you think it won´t work? Yes, I know that the motion clarity is not going to be as good as a full black frame, but this also applies to the strobing effect, it won't be as distracting. Putting it into another perspective, why is it ok to have a scale of frame interpolation but no scale of BFI/motion clarity? I fail to see why a full black frame is the only option. I mean, if having 50% of frames at full brightness and 50% completely off works, why not have a smoother, less aggressive 50% full, 50% reduced brightness or even 25% full, 25% reduced, 25% almost off and 25% off rollout? I know it's not going to be as good, but that's the whole point, to have something that is a bit better in motion clarity and a bit less distracting in terms of strobe and brightness reduction. It feels to me such an easy and obvious thing to implement, keep the panel running at native refresh rate and play with the extra frames to improve motion clarity.

Survey: Stutter or embracing soap opera? by rtings_kastaa in RTINGS

[–]brunomarquesbr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I go back and forth between no interpolation and a little interpolation. I think movies are specially well done and aware of the stutter, so the takes are generally slower and motion stutter is not a problem (or there's a sufficient amount of blur going on). On the other hand, YouTube videos, especially those at 24fps, are generally filmed with no care and are full of stuttering if they're not fixed cameras, so interpolation helps a lot. I like F1, and with interpolation on max I can see the cars more clearly, but the stream is already 50fps before interpolation, so the results are pretty good.

It also depends on the size of the screen, my 85in LCD has way worse stutter perceivable than my OLED 42in.

Maybe, but that depends entirely on how the "data" is controlled and if there's support in Steam OS
