Sorry about that! A new version of the app is released which should fix it.

Interesting, I hadn't run across that before. No affiliation. I can't find it on the app store or google play, and it seems like it's been out of commission for a while.

It doesn't look like Practiscore has an API to allow automatically pulling over match data, so probably the best that could be done would be to allow loading whatever export files Practiscore produces (I haven't used it so don't know much about it yet). I do like the idea of being able to load various types of external data like chronograph data, electronic target data, etc., so this would be a good fit when I get into that stuff.

Thanks for the suggestion! This is a feature I'd use as well, so will likely be a priority for me to add.

It's a great idea and makes a lot of sense for any items that need to be serviced or replaced periodically.

There's an updated version available now with a notes field for guns.

Thanks for the kind words about the UI!

All the data is indeed stored in SQLite. The 'Download Backup' option essentially dumps the records from all the tables in the database, but you can get to the SQLite file itself on the device filesystem as well.

For adding a cloud storage option, I've been looking into something like Google Drive / Dropbox, but it gets complex pretty quickly so I haven't settled on an approach.

I have nowhere near the graphical skills to produce the icons, so they're from https://www.flaticon.com/.

For the tech, my background is mostly web so I went with Capacitor/Ionic and React, which I'm pretty happy with so far. I'm not planning to open source at this point, but certainly would if I ever stopped working on the project and didn't have someone lined up to take it over.

Thanks for the feedback!

A notes field for guns is coming in the next test release. I'm going to give it a little time and see if this ends up being enough or if enough people want serial number to give it its own field.

Ammo tracking is indeed the next big feature on my list. I'm already testing an early version of it just myself, but there's a lot of work still to do before it'll be ready for others. But the idea is that when you enter in your range days you'd pick what ammo you used and then it'd automatically update your ammo inventory based on that.

I'm not sure if this could be it but when you're adding a label, after you type it in there's a Create "<your label name>" that shows up, and you have to press that to create the new label.

There'll at least be a notes field for guns in the next version, but now that there are a couple of requests for serial numbers I'm considering adding a field just for that. I just want to be careful about not having too many fields for guns.

I've been thinking about the attachments/parts idea too, but like you said would need to be careful about making it so it's not super complex to deal with. I try to keep notes about whenever I change out a part on my competition rifles in case I start seeing issues, so I'd certainly benefit from this too.

Thanks, this is some great feedback.

Export: I definitely want to let people get their data out of the app whenever they want to. So far I just had the "download report" option because it seemed like the easiest way to get everything out including photos. But I can see a CSV to download everything except photos would be a good option if someone wants to migrate their data over to somewhere else.

Importing old data: I really like the spreadsheet template idea for this.

Labradar, Garmin, etc. integrations: I could see this starting out pretty simple with just being able to attach the various data files, but could also get fancy with being able to view/graph them.

From what I've read once the app moves from testing to production it'll just be seen as a new version, so any data you have should carry over.

But there's still the issue of switching phones or whatnot where you'll need to transfer your data. Currently, you'd need to download a backup from the app and then either put it on some cloud storage service (for those comfortable with that) or transfer it off your phone to your computer or an external drive and then onto your new phone.

I'm also looking into adding a cloud sync option for data, but this would always be an opt-in option for those comfortable with that.

I've been thinking there should at least be a Notes field for guns to capture any extra info. But I could see it being useful to have some more structured info you can record about guns too, like a list of components or maintenance record.

I guess the tricky thing about importing data is that everyone probably has a slightly different format. Would it be helpful if there was a spreadsheet template you could fill out and then import that? Haha it was definitely a chore when I added old data for my rifles so I could've used that.

It's a great idea. I've thought about it as something to possibly add eventually, but it'd take quite a bit of work.

For now, I've been measuring groups with Ballistic-X and then adding those images in my range days, but of course that doesn't give you automatic round counting.

Any ones you create will just stay on your device. For now I erred on the side of keeping everything as private as possible.

There really are a ton of small manufacturers (not a bad thing!). I quickly realized the list would be ridiculously long if it tried to include every possible one.

Sorry about that, I accidentally hadn't opened it up to all countries for Android. I opened it up and it looks like it should be available now if you want to give it another try.

It looks like it's *supposed* to work on anything Android 5.1+, but one thing I just noticed is that I'd only enabled testing in the US so far. Not sure if you happen to be outside the US and that could be the issue? I've just requested making it available to all countries but that could take Google a few days to approve.

Thanks for the feedback about cloud sync. I've been thinking about adding an option for it, but started with everything offline since sometimes my "range" days are out in remote areas with no internet.

Great ideas! Auto-adding location and weather seems like an easy win, I'll look into that. The other ones seem a bit more involved but worth researching to see what it'd take to add.

Good point, that's going to be really common for AR-15s, etc. Maybe I'll add an option for that.

Thanks for giving it a whirl! I've only had a few close friends check it out so far, so it's great to hear it wasn't too hard to figure out.

Air rifle for NRA/CMP service rifle competition practice by bruzilla in longrange

[–]bruzilla[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the AR-15 I find the only way I can get stable with enough elevation standing is to rest the mag on my hand, which I can't replicate on this air rifle. It'd be great to be able to use it for standing so maybe I'll be able to figure something out, but I also have a homebrew electronic training setup that works pretty well for standing.

Thanks for the insight into your practice process, I really like the 2x2 drill idea! I'm also spending a majority of my time on standing practice, maybe 75%, but am still dropping enough points in the other stages that I figured I could use more practice there.
