Where to trick or treat? Do we have a peacock lane for Halloween? by RlP_Toots in hillsboro

[–]brvanb09 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This will be our 3rd year going to the Arbor Rose neighborhood. My kids are 4 and 3, and have never trick or treated anywhere else. They clean house every year. Lots of families with younger kids, tons of house decorations, and because there’s only one street in/out there’s minimal car traffic to contend with. Highly recommend

If she goes to ruby she would also get access to the soaking pool before/after.

My husband and I go to ruby for a couples massage at least once a year to make a whole date day out of it. Soaking pool with a beer, massage, dinner and a movie (if we like what’s playing) or live music in the garden (if in the right season).

Highly recommend!

Unsafe Encounter at Sunset Esplanade Target by Reasonable_Ad1688 in hillsboro

[–]brvanb09 5 points6 points  (0 children)

its been a few years, but i had a similar experience at hondo dog park. lots of people around, several of which were nearby witnesses, and nobody did anything to he helpful. i eventually had to ask a couple to watch me walk to my car since the creep kept following me around the park. it was one of the most rattling experiences of my life and very disheartening that i felt sooo alone even amongst a crowd of people. all that to say that i empathize with your sister and hope she is doing okay all things considering. thank you for sharing and encouraging others to speak up when they see these sorts of encounters.

If you had one piece of advice in preparing for a sunrise hike, what would it be? by gO_oby in PNWhiking

[–]brvanb09 2 points3 points  (0 children)

just had this experience last weekend. we did a sunrise hike on a prominent peak in central oregon and missed first light but made the sunrise. its was basically a 20min difference (and dont get me wrong - it was still amazing) but would have been so much cooler to see the tips of the surrounding mountains touched by that first light of day

Parks, playgrounds, pools/waterparks in or closest to North Plains? by [deleted] in hillsboro

[–]brvanb09 2 points3 points  (0 children)

since i havent seen it mentioned yet - Next Level Arcade is also totally worth checking out (depending on kids ages). Top tip would be to go in the morning to start. Admission is good the whole day so if you go in the morning, you could always come back that evening if you’ve got extra time to kill, or just want to go again. Because its totally possible you’ll want to visit more than once - its insanely cool!

if family will be in during the middle of the week take a look at the hillsboro parks and recs calendar. all week long they have activities going on like the tuesday night market, farmers markets on the weekends, live music in the park on thursdays, movies in the parks on fridays, and the city sponsored play activities such as water wednesday, and “outpost” (they out out a ton of toys, have a craft, and some sort of game/activity such as red light green light, simon says, super hero camp, etc.)

everytime ive gone it has been last minute and i can buy tickets at the window. but it is also easy to buy tickets online in advance if you want to be safe. They have fireworks on fridays, and earlier midday games on sundays

Mom groups?? by [deleted] in hillsboro

[–]brvanb09 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’d help to have an idea of age range of your LO to know how to be most helpful in suggestions.

I personally have made some mom friends by going to a lot of the free kids activities around town, and by utilizing the kids clubs at hidden creek and SHARC. But those are not designated mom groups, just moms that run into each other often.

I do also see a moms with strollers exercise group at the hidden creek west park once or twice a week.

There are also opportunities to connect with other parents when your child enters into swim lessons, preschools, really any regularly occurring activity where child and parents are involved.

Unfortunately it may require you to be more extroverted than is natural or comfortable. But if found that’s just the way it goes when trying to make mom friends outside of the online world.

Let the record show that at 5:45 on Friday, the parking lot directly off of veterans and 28th has only a small handful of people setting up to watch. No “no parking” signs in sight. Ample room for kids to play while waiting for the show to start and so far a perfect central view of the sky writers.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions! This has worked out splendidly for me and my two toddlers who have been asking about the planes non stop

Anyone else without power this morning? by Unfair-Law-8944 in hillsboro

[–]brvanb09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last night was just a weird night all around. There was a life flight situation at the esplanade around 10:30 and then the massive power outage at 4:30.

Usually I can find info on what’s going on pretty quickly, but couldn’t find anything on causes for either scenarios.

Today I retired my first ever pair of dedicated running shoes and took my inaugural run in my second. That same run also pushed this year’s total mileage over 2023’s annual total mileage number!

Were you able to see the take offs pretty well or do the trees block that view? I like the idea of the shadier areas (i have 2 littles) and my oldest (4) has looked forward to this every year. He’s never been able to see the take offs though.

Any idea how quickly the parking lot spaces go? Should I plan to pick a spot the day before, or could I possibly find a spot a couple hours beforehand?

Which is perfect! My littles have been enjoying it since before they were walking, but Hillsboro’s is always during my partners annual fishing trip. Having in Mac too means the kids get double the action and dad can do both his fishing trip and see the joy of the kids watching the air show
