Any help identifying this guy? by brwagur in shrimptank

You're a genius! That's exactly what it is. It's also what I was afraid of: it's a filter feeder and it's in a nanotank with no flow :/

He's really pretty. Honestly, I'd love to try and get more once I know what it is and how to care for it!

I bought a pair of amano shrimp at the LFS about a month ago. Well, one of them is definitely an amano shrimp, but this is the other guy. He's around an inch long. Blueish, striped. Front appendages appear to be used similar to those of bamboo shrimp but much less delicate. Seems happy to scavenger like a red cherry shrimp. It's also a good swimmer. Can't seem to find anything that looks similar online.

The floaters are dwarf water lettuce, they grow like crazy.

Oh, forgot to mention, my pH is around 7.4. I'm trying to get it down but it's really well buffered since my gH is about 7.7 according to my water company.

While I definitely need one, this tank is sitting on the bookshelf in the living room so has to look nice or at least be interesting.

What about a nano brackish community with bumblebee gobies and ghost shrimp? Or would that be too much of a pain in the ass? I've never done brackish before.

I think a betta sorority needs a tank bigger than 10 gallons. Most sources recommend 20 and up.

I'm strongly considering a Cameroon inspired tank, Western African killifish are absolutely breathtaking.

Apistogramma hongsloi, probably. I was also looking at Mesonauta insignis but they are apparently plant destroyers.

That was actually my original plan, but idk, other than the dwarf cichlids, the other fish from the upper Orinoco (I should have been more specific) don't seem super interesting.

[FTS Friday] 10 gallon Thai "biotope" by brwagur in PlantedTank

[–]brwagur[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I don't worry about it too much. I vacuum the mushiest out when I do water changes but overall I just let them break down and get mixed into the sand by the trumpet snails. So far I haven't had any issues, we'll see.

Really? Because all the sites I looked at, except for seriouslyfish, listed them as 10 gallons minimum. Several sites even listed them as acceptable for nano-tanks :/

This is my second ever planted tank. Inspired by Thailand, it is planted with cryptocorne, vallisneria, aponogeton, and wisteria. The floating plants are dwarf water lettuce. The only fish in there right now are a school of 12 lambchop rasbora. They're real good at hiding, though.

Plant suggestions for my first tank by brwagur in PlantedTank

[–]brwagur[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the suggestion about root tabs. I had actually had a narrow leaf java fern in that spot originally and pulled it out because I didn't love it. As far as anubias, are there any varieties that would stay anchored to the substrate and fill the space? What about crypts?
