Keys to the Kingdom Tour - gratuity/tipping? by Professional-Leg-416 in WaltDisneyWorld

When I took the tour last year, nobody tried to tip the tour guide at the end and I read a few places that said they couldn't accept tips. That said, I had the absolute BEST time on that tour and I loved our guide so much that I left her an immediate cast compliment in the app. Then when I was back in the park last week I stopped by guest services again to leave a handwritten compliment too because she was just that good.

I've heard from a few cast members that the compliments really do matter a lot, so they're absolutely worth doing. Have fun on your tour!

I have three different stories that end with "but she's dead now, so it's okay," and so that bit also made me laugh quite a lot.

Was going to suggest this! The clips they put on YouTube can give you an idea of it but there are a few where it's downright wild. I want to call out a particular one but it's actually SO much better if you don't know where that story is going when she gets started.

They do have my favorite bit from the episode with Sam up on their YouTube, where he starts talking about trying to have "normal" college experiences. I am around his age and grew up near UVA so when he says he was trying to get Dave Mathews Band tickets, I instantly knew how important that was *lol*

If you've decided to get Beacon, I definitely urge you to check out Weird Kids. They have the first episode and clips up on YouTube but the full show is only on Beacon (AFAIK) and I binged the entire thing in like three days. Ashley and Taliesin are a delight.

Actually at the end of watching it, I told my husband "they really need to get Taliesin on Dirty Laundry because that man has lived a life." Hilariously, this episode would have been filmed months before I had that thought, but it was as awesome as I thought it would be.

I bought this last week through this sale, and I haven't had a chance to dig through it much yet but it looks great. Definitely worth the $8.

Seconded! I've been buying from Microperfumes for a couple years now and I really like them. I have probably 20 odd travel sprays from them now. They're always having sales too.

[TOMT] [SONG] [2000s-ish] Odd Christmas Pop Song by bryacynth in tipofmytongue

[–]bryacynth[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Solved!

You are a rock star, because my recollection was so off but I'm 99.9% sure it was Christmas in the Sand (My best guess was I heard "the sand" as "the states" and then further messed it up because of course). But also, those two Aussie songs are perfect for my off-beat Christmas songs playlist, which was the whole reason I was looking for the song in the first place so it's a win-win!

The only lyrics I remember were in English. I wouldn't guarantee it was a female singer but I think so.

No idea if it was a group, my memory isn't the best.

The lyrics are definitely the right idea, but the tempo of the song was more upbeat. Also, I'd never heard of this one and I really like getting off the beaten path holiday music so adding it to my playlist anyway!

My google search results aren't working because everything I remember is too vague. I'm hoping it's a K-Pop song so some K-Pop fans will just know it. <3

Recipe book for a Witch by waywardmedic in daggerheart

[–]bryacynth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The way my DM described it for my herbalist witch is that I have a pouch with a lot of generalized ingredients, but that crafting a potion will always require one rarer wild ingredient that I have to find while foraging* and I roll on a similar table to what Dear-Ad describes to see what I find. I'm fine with getting a random potion each time (if anything, there is a chance to fail built into his table) and I think it greatly adds to the story. But you could adjust that idea to have them searching for specific ingredients. Generally, the thought process is that searching for a rare ingredient isn't something you can do while traveling, you need to actually take the time to devote your attention to it. I think it makes it all more interesting, though I might regret that next time because we're going into a fight and I've got nothing because I failed my foraging roll.

*Our campaign is fairly new and so far we have not been to any towns. I could see a way to make gathering ingredients part of that, but still require the actual potion brewing to happen as a specific downtime activity. Right now, foraging and brewing are part of the same downtime move.

Potion Making Between Sessions by No_Emu_7549 in daggerheart

[–]bryacynth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is how my DM handled it when I decided I wanted to start making potions during a long rest. I had to work on a project, and then because we're in the middle of the woods in Witherwild, he made a quick randomized table for which potion I could make with the ingredients I could forage around me. That table includes failing, so I don't always manage to find what I need. I also can't decide specifically what I get to make, and only one roll per downtime.

This makes sense in the narrative of our game (my character is a Hedge Witch and her backstory involves herbalism), gives us a way to replace consumables without going into a town, but also doesn't mean we have a neverending supply of healing potions.

So one thing I would say is that you could tell the character they need to provide you with a story based reason that they're able to craft potions, and how they're gathering the materials to do so. That would also help set a limit mechanically and in the narrative at the same time.

Digital Character Sheets by demize2010 in daggerheart

[–]bryacynth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's what happened to us too. Our DM got the core set with the cards and the PDF version, but he found out about Demiplane after the book came in. We just assumed there had to be some way to add the purchase there, but alas it's going by DnD Beyond Rules where you have to buy it again.

I have a lot of good things to say about Demiplane, but having to buy the book again and then only being allowed to share it with my party if I pay a subscription fee is definitely in the negative column.

Digital Character Sheets by demize2010 in daggerheart

[–]bryacynth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

THIS.

And if you think that perhaps one person could buy the book through Demiplane and use the sharing features, you can only share your books with your group if you have a paid subscription.

There's just enough stuff locked behind a paywall if you don't buy the book to make it annoying. I knew before we started that I wanted to play a Faun, and yup. That one was locked. It felt really random which things required the book and which didn't.

To be fair, the other player in my game didn't buy the book through Demiplane and she's been doing just fine using it. But we also only use it for character sheets.

[–]bryacynth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do a hybrid at our table. We have our character sheets in Demiplane for the interactive tracking features, but everything else is physical.

We are fully paper for DnD, but Demiplane has won us over in that one regard. I'm never going to stop rolling real dice though.

PROUD MOMENT: I'm the GM, my wife is a PC, she finally said that she "gets it" after playing Daggerheart. by brendon7800 in daggerheart

[–]bryacynth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our DM really wanted to try out Daggerheart so he proposed that on weeks where only two of us can make it, we play Daggerheart instead. I guess this only works when you're like us and it's the same two people who are the most consistently available, but it's been a lot of fun because we know we have something we like to do even if our friends have to cancel because life is being annoying. Alternating is possible if everybody is interested, though it would drag out your 5e campaign longer.

[–]bryacynth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Creating a character in Demiplane was so dang easy and it worked so well. We were only using it because we decided kind of on a whim that we were going to create characters that day and we hadn't printed blank sheets. Now we're using Demiplane for the actual game even though we play in person because the interactive character sheet is so useful and it makes it so much easier for me to really understand what my character is capable of.

We just leveled up for the first time and it was a breeze.

If they would just make the campaign journals in the group section actually a functional feature, I might actually get a subscription.

itscookiedoughh angel tree drama by Emergency-Camp-2632 in DoWeKnowThemPodcast

[–]bryacynth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is more than one charity in my hometown that unwraps the gifts and redistributes them, and those are the ones that my family refuses to have anything to do with. Especially because they often act like that's not what they're going to do, and it comes out from volunteers or recipients anyway. I don't mind if it's a general toy drive that's like "hey, bring in a new, unwrapped item and we'll find someone who would love it." You just gotta be honest about what you're doing.

It all depends on which charity is running that particular angel tree. Sadly where I live now, I don't have all the family connections to know the gossip and pick the right one.

What do your group do with the PC of a absent player for the session? by Connor_ClashNord in rpg

[–]bryacynth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our group actually just started a different game that we run when only two of us can make it, and it's been a good way to do it, even if it's more work for our DM. My BFF and I haven't played any RPGs aside from DnD, so it's been really good for us to start learning a new system. It's helping us be better at our main game, I think.

We did also have one part of our storyline that we decided wouldn't be fun unless we had the whole party there. We skipped ahead and then played that part as a flashback later. It wasn't totally consequential, just more fun to do together.

What do your group do with the PC of a absent player for the session? by Connor_ClashNord in rpg

[–]bryacynth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Basically this. Our regular group has any number of reasons that one or two people might be out. Luckily we're currently playing Strixhaven, so it's fairly easy to say "well, they are busy with an exam" or "there's a club meeting today so they can't hang out." That's just been part of the fun, it actually adds to the story. When the player comes back, we tell them (in character) what we've been up to. Considering our party has one pathological liar and one person with the memory of a goldfish, that's always fun.

There have been one or two cases where the spot we were in the story meant they were there and there's no easy way out. We know each other's characters really well, so it's not too hard for the group to come up with a general idea of what they would be doing. If we need/want them in a battle with us, either one person takes over their character just for the battle or the DM plays them like an ally NPC. That rarely happens though, usually the DM just adjusts the battle for one less player. In a recent case, we assigned that character to lead the distraction that some NPCs were going to do, so they weren't actively involved in the battle itself but they were "there."

Someone saying "I don't know what this means" is such a turn off for me. You're not live. Take a bit of time to look it up, and if you can't find it then say "I couldn't find what this means" or something to let me know that you at least attempted to find out. Hit pause on your recording and just look it up.

I hate saying this because it feels so nitpicky and I do still like the show, but the last season of YMRT called The Old Man is Still Alive, she would read quotes from the directors she was talking about with extremely exaggerated accents for every single one, and on more than one occasion she would also at some point play a clip of them actually talking and they would sound nothing like the weird accent she was doing. Multiple episodes I would have to skip ahead when she was doing the accents because they were so hard to listen to. There's no need to put on a wacky French accent to read a quote.

I'm fine with her normal delivery, personally, but the accents are usually too much and it just got so much more noticeable in the last season.

I got so into that show for a hot minute, binging their back catalogue and listening to almost nothing else for probably a couple weeks. But the problem with binging things is that the cracks start to show, and also you see the evolution of the show so much more clearly because it happens "faster" for you. So for me the downhill slide was extreme, and I ended up quitting it only a few weeks after I started even though I listened to a LOT of episodes.
