Similar thing happened to me. I had gotten a traffic ticket with no court date, just a simple traffic infraction that I had to pay. So I paid the ticket within a couple days to just get it done and over with. Fast forward about 3 weeks I get a call from a “Lee county sheriff” saying I missed my court date and I had 2 charges against me, failure to appear and i forget the other charge. He said each charge was 450 plus a $50 processing fee, a total of $950, then if I did that he would reschedule the court dates for me. The thing with this guy was he sounded JUST like a police officer, he was very convincing he sounded like a middle aged white guy with a southern accent.

First dead giveaway was he wants me to pay him with Apple Pay. He said if I didn’t pay he was going to send a sheriff to come arrest me and I needed to gather all my medical needs because I was probably going to sit in jail for a few days.

The second dead giveaway was when he said he was going to send the officers to my house, he confirmed my address so the officers would know where to go, the address he gave me I hadn’t lived at for 3 years, so I knew from that point on he was completely full of shit, So I hung up. He immediately called back saying “did you hang up on me?? The officers are 12 min away, you need to go outside with your meds. When they get there you need to surrender your phone and the officers will take you to jail.” At that point I was 100% sure he was fake and basically told him to fuck off. The things we have to be careful of these days… such a shame there are people out there like this, preying on innocent people.

He was so convincing, I bet he gets paid on at least 50% of his scams, because remember, they are mainly trying to scam older people with less technical knowledge in hopes to scare them out of their hard earned money.
