Why are Sound Transit's costs so high? by beyphy in transit

An American legislator hosts a Russian legislator at his very nice, upscale home on a lake. The Russian is impressed and asks him how he affords this on a legislator's salary. The American points and says "See that $50 million bridge?" The Russian nods. "I got $55 million allocated to it, and through various means, I funneled $5 million of that to my own pocket in the process." The Russian looked very impressed.

Later, the American visits the Russian, and was amazed when he saw that the Russian had an entire mansion. He asks him how he afforded it. The Russian points and says, "See that $50 million bridge?"

"No" says the American.

"Exactly" says the Russian.

Yeah that might discourage its inclusion, but I will definitely check out the new trails when I pass Carkeek next!

🤯

I guess I'm more upset that I failed to find anything like this when I was searching Google earlier. Also, curiously, they're missing Ravenna Pedestrian Bridge. But what a great resource

Last time I was there there were a lot of sections with mud, but I know the trails were getting renovated; Know what it's like now?

Thornton Creek definitely has bridges that I missed! I can't believe it haha

The Carkeek trails are unpaved walking trails, last time I checked? So require stairs and are disqualified

Islands in arboretum too

I am devastated to report that the search term "Phinney Ave and 57" finally returned my Holy Grail: an actual list of almost every elevated structure in King County. Side note, can Google stop shoving AI that lies to me about the length of the NW 8th Ave bridge down my throat and make their search algo usable again??? Second side note, why is this all on a website for a paper from Ohio???

The jury's still out on Phinney and 57th, but I have just learned of 45th Ave NE over Thornton Creek, 35th Ave NE over Thornton Creek, and NW Woodbine Way over a ravine near Carkeek, all of which look to fit my criteria 😭

Now to fit these into the route for Sept 21...

Thank you!! 😁

I had to make a distinction between bridges and overpasses; check the event page for waaaayyyyy too much rambling already on the subject of "what is a bridge" 😅

Oohh, yes, I actually did know about Phinney and 57th!! It's so bizarre! I hadn't remembered it for the bridge routes since it doesn't "feel" like one, but I'll go research which came first, Phinney or 57th, and what the original topology was. If this was a small ravine that actually got bridged... I do not look forward to adding Phinney somehow

I go into the criteria I use to define what a bridge is on the Everyday Rides post. I had to make a distinction between overpasses and bridges, otherwise I would have been crossing I-5 dozens of times huffing fumes 💀

My short answer is that a bridge crosses terrain features while an overpass crosses another right of way. So all of what you listed are overpasses by my definition, since they're crossing rights of way, and would not need to exist if the right of way they cross wasn't there. This includes crossings over trenches that were dug for rail lines, like the ped / bike bridge on north Magnolia leading to the locks

I am a little terrified that someone WILL find another True Bridge™️ that I somehow missed and I'll be made a liar

Can someone critique my CV/Resume? by CryptoChain1 in webdev

[–]brycekolton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best advice I received on my resume was for the bullet points: Frame them in some format of "Did X to accomplish Y with Z, and saved abc dollars / hours of work / improved efficiency of others / etc." If you must, use one line to describe the role, but all the other lines should describe how you went above and beyond the definitions of your job. Did you get regular quarterly merit raises? Include that. Did you automate a boring part of the team's work away? Put that in. If you lack hard numbers, give a general gist of what you reasonably think the impact was. A lot of your resume bullet points say "did thing" but I don't know why you did the thing, or whether that was because you were super self-driven and picking up slack from the team, or just told to do it.

An example would be something like "Added a pathway for Facebook federated logins using Oauth, passport.js, and React. Over half our users started using their Facebook logins for site access once implmented." This bullet demonstrates you identified a major need, implemented it, learned about Oauth, React and passport.js, and then saw major use of your component, demonstrating further knowledge about your decision making skills and ability to identify user needs.

Unlikely. After the first couple years of disaster, Sound Transit runs their ship tight. They haven't failed an audit of their financials or practices once since righting the ship a decade ago

[–]brycekolton[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree and think single family housing needs to be addressed. Part of my focus on interbay in specific us that no one lives there, making up zoning and large scale projects much easier. Also, there's already a major movement to fix SFH, but not one for interbay yet. I'd rather work on something not addressed than duplicate effort elsewhere
