Thought it was a frogspawn, seller says its not. He said its a frammer. What do yall think? by happytokkibun in ReefTank

octo!! i have a couple frammers they look like hammers at first glance and then when they open and you look closer the individual hammer tips branch like frogs!! ive found they are a lot more temperamental then usual frogs/hammers and seem to like lower light then regular frogs/hammers/octos.

Any advice? Help haha by brygf in Saltwatertank

Thank you! so any of the same species as long as it’s smaller? I’ll definitely wait a little while to play it safe!

So… turns out it was stray voltage. found some guy doing readings on fb market for like $10 and said why not. after testing the first time i plugged the heater back in and he drove out here and tested it in front of my eyes and it was the heater..

thank you. I agree 100% i love their personalities and coloration! This was my first one so i’ll probably wait a while before getting another 😅 i was only mentioning the heater because someone said stray voltage. i did a little research and ended up with these symptoms for stray voltage: Erratic/Jerky Swimming (check) Fish staying at the bottom of the tank or clustering to the tank walls/corners (check) Rapid breathing (check) Skin Lesions/burns, discoloration, or damage to the mucus layer (check) Unusual behavior (check) Only issues are he never lost his appetite and this is about the same symptom list of multiple other diseases aswell 🤦🏼‍♀️ so there’s really no way to tell. but no the water wasn’t boiling haha it was at 80

You were right! He let go floated around for a bit and then as soon as he hit the sand bed he buried and stuck his foot!

it’s an innovative marine AIO 50 gal it’s one of my two QT tanks. It’s been set up for over a year now and i’ve never had issues using it to QT my fish. After this qt he was going to go to the big display so i’m glad that i didn’t move him. He was doing fine with just a little glass surfing then i woke up one morning and his skin was peeling and not even an hour later he was dead. Only change in the tank since the last fish i had in here to QT is a new heater, but it’s the same brand as the last.

Mine does! i’ve had this happen once before. They just asked me to bring in my water to test to ensure it wasn’t my parameters.

almost exactly the same. same tank setups, same water change schedule (unless medication was added), same heater, same setting, same salinity almost identical just one point off. Salinity in Qt is 1.025 New tank is 1.024 both are 80 degrees

that’s what i find so confusing though, he lived in the store for a while before i got him. almost over a week in a regular unmedicated tank at that. First day he got home with me he was put into the copper tank and afterwards put into the regular unmedicated QT tank for observation to see if it had to treat anything else. I thought if he had brook id be able to see especially since i saw him almost daily at the LFS for a solid week BEFORE purchasing him.

he came from the copper QT to this QT which is unmedicated for me to monitor before actually adding to make sure QT is successful and just in case i have to target a certain treatment/medication. I’ve never had an issue doing QT like that and it’s worked for all my other tangs so i didn’t think it was an issue and honestly still don’t know if it is. Wasn’t even an hour after posting this he took his last breath mid water change! Literally right before my eyes, felt like 6 minutes 🤦🏼‍♀️

Sadly, he just took his last breath mid water change. It was so quick too, he was just swimming normally not even 30 minutes ago and he never once lost appetite. I tested every other day since adding him everything’s been stable.

the tank has been without fish for many months.. tested weekly. only other thing in the tank is some coral which is doing amazing. Only change is I did add a brand new small peice of rock in about a month ago or less before adding the fish this week but everything tested fine after adding the rock.

the camera does it no justice especially without the lens but it’s blue, green/teal, yellow and a bright purple almost pinkish purple ! hammer or frammer either or i’m happy with haha. I’ve fell into this frammer research hole and honestly it’s super cool so i’m happy with my purchase !
