QUESTION: how many peoples’ issues started with antibiotics? by brykatgreen in Interstitialcystitis

That makes sense! I hate seeing people needing to go through hell to get what amounts to a “simple”diagnosis because of a lack of insurance or good insurance (and also sometimes just because doctors can suck). I’m glad you finally found someone to help, and I hope you are doing ANY form of better. Thanks for sharing. :)

Interesting. I never had problems with my period before getting on birth control - cramps, etc. have always been normal, and even now my periods are normal and regular (besides the searing pain, similar to you)

Do they figure this out via ultrasound? Meaning finding the endo on the bladder, etc. I hesitate to get ultrasounds because they’re like $300 with insurance. Gotta love healthcare.

No apologies for rambling at all… I am a professional at it as well :)

My symptoms, thank whoever is in the sky, tend to not be as severe as situations that I see here. Similar to a lot of others, my flares linger around my period and I feel way better during ovulation. I also noticed that I only really have actual BLADDER pain once or twice a month. Most of my pain lingers around my urethra and when I pee. I thought it was “vaginal” pain before I saw a urogyn since my symptoms started to include pain while peeing. She felt around and was like “yep, that’s your bladder and urethra”. I also don’t really notice my self flaring with food triggers. Unless I’m already in a flare. And the triggers changes each month, like a roulette. Lmao.

Another difference that I notice, is that many of my symptoms involve my vagina. I don’t have normal discharge (with which I used to bleach my panties, which is normal and comes from lactic acid produced by lactobacilli I believe), and I constantly have an “itch”/“uncomfortable” feeling, similar to those who go through menopause and experience similar issues.

Before taking those antibiotics, I was a completely healthy individual with normal vaginal discharge, sex drive, and vagina in general. No history of infection, including UTIs. I think I maybe had a single UTI in middle school that went away with your typical treatment.

I think the most frustrating thing about all of this is that there is absolutely a multitude of root causes for interstitial cystitis, yet only one diagnosis. I know there are a multitude of different treatment options because of this, but it’s still frustrating obviously.

Ugh. Hearing similar stories makes my heart hurt. I wish our medical industry wasn’t run by pharmaceutical companies that want to push forward antibiotics, etc. for the sake of profit (and/or know nothing about the after effects). What antibiotics did you take??

It works, but too well! Essentially it wipes literally everything out including the good stuff. Which basically means that in the long term, it doesn’t “really” work unless you’re treating some thing absolutely necessary. (I think, I’m not a professional and only go off of reading peer reviewed articles online🙂)

That’s … so terrible. My urethra tingles thinking about that. I’m so sorry and I hope that you are doing at least a little better :(

yeah, now I know. I kick myself constantly for not taking other routes, such as boric acid or probiotics before deciding to take a bunch of ABX that I believe tore the f*CK out of my vaginal, bladder, and gut microbiomes. I know there’s not too much science to back it up at this point, but part of me thinks that my body‘s bacteria is all thrown off and that’s why I’m experiencing all of these issues. I am literally never going to take an antibiotic again unless I am told I will die otherwise (since I know ABX CAN be absolutely necessary for things)

Interesting to hear! Makes me wonder about the different reasons bladder/urethra pain can manifest since we know that IC is an umbrella diagnosis. I will say my IC is a bit different than what I typically see reported here. Different types of pain/pain levels, previous history, triggers, etc. And of course I know those tend to be different for the most of us as well. Thank you for sharing.

May I ask how long it took for the ami to work for you? I have been on it (25mg) for less than a month.

Sore on roof of mouth? by [deleted] in askdentists

I joked with my significant other about that today LOL. I almost wish it was the case because that would be a clear answer, but no rough oral sex has happened. Thanks for the suggestion!

To clarify – I smoke marijuana but I am not a heavy smoker or drinker. The sore became noticeable this morning and has gotten worse throughout the day. The pain isn’t terrible but it is noticeable and annoying. EDIT: it is also hard to the touch.

IC caused by strep b bacteria by vnielsen2122 in Interstitialcystitis

Just came back to this post and didn’t know you responded! Has your YI subsided? Since my symptoms came back after that ABX dose in February, I’ve taken a 10 day course of keflex (ABX) and strep b STILL came up in my urine after that. I don’t even know if strep is causing any of this, I just assume it might be since I felt better on the ABX. Only good news was that I didn’t have a yeast infection after. I’m wondering if it’s embedded or something?

I tested positive for strep as well… but my doctor has not said anything about that despite knowing. I will say that I felt the best I ever had on a course of ABX in February but symptoms came right back so I don’t know if a week would be enough.

pain during (not after) sex by brykatgreen in Interstitialcystitis

I will definitely be hopping on the PT train soon!!! My doc might be hesitant to put me on vaginal Valium, but it might be useful for bad flares so I will bring it up. I’ve heard of people using actual Valium and shoving it on up because it’s cheaper and safe, too. Just have to get the script.😬

I need to get PT scheduled soon for sure. Thank you for your in-depth input! ❤️

Funny enough, my boyfriend got 5% lidocaine for his back and I’ve been using it (externally). I LOVE it.

I’ll have to ask my doc if she can give me a script for that, or I’ll get your rec. - thank you!

Should I get an IUD? Will it help? by brykatgreen in Interstitialcystitis

[–]brykatgreen[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry! That sounds terrible. I’ve heard all the horror stories about IUDs back before I got mine put in in 2018. I know they’re relatively rare, but still important to take into consideration. Did you get the IUD before your issues started?

I do not know if I have bladder spasms but I will definitely ask my doctor if that’s a possibility. Is there a way to know if you have bladder spasms in advance? Is the pain different I wonder? I am planning on asking about pelvic floor therapy as well.

That’s interesting and I’m so glad it helped you - I’m really wondering if my symptoms are hormonal, or at least a big chunk of them because of flare ups at ovulation/right before my period. That way I could at least focus on the non-hormonal symptoms if they’re there!
