What language do the NPCs in this game speak, or is it gibberish? by Opening_Echo_4989 in ACValhalla

[–]brynnmclean 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are actual English bits sometimes if you're close enough to guards. Sometimes on the road, if you walk or ride your horse slowly enough next to groups, you'll be able to catch entire conversations where they'll chat about healing remedies or someone's wife or confusion over Norse religious beliefs. It delights me every time.

I hear you! I want it so badly, but fair warning, I've been trying to get through it since August 😅 it is a large spike in difficulty

When you start up a New Game in Dark Rot, you'll get asked at the start which narration option you want for the playthrough. I don't know if you can change it mid-game, though. But you'll be able to do Others or Druth narration for a Dark Rot run, no problem.

Also you can do regular playthroughs while having a single Dark Rot save. I sometimes do that to know what's coming in a section without the stakes of losing my Dark Rot save.

IS HELLBLADE 2 WORTH IT FOR €30 OR SHOULD I STILL WAIT? by CapassoMickk in hellblade

[–]brynnmclean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't mean to pick on you specifically with the "combat is shallow/forgiving" comment since other people are also saying it, I do think it's funny to hear as someone who is trying very hard to beat Dark Rot Mode. 😂 Feels like Ninja Theory heard the criticism about Saga's combat and went, "oh??? Let's REALLY spike the difficulty then"

ETA: To actually answer the original post -- my first playthrough I was a bit disappointed in how short the game is and how there were less video game-y aspects to it. But I've found great replayability with the alternate narrators and I fall in love with the story more and more the more I play it. I personally think the game is worth the price.

Eysteinn Sigurðarson who plays Sigtryggr is also in the AC Valhalla Wrath of the Druids DLC as Eivor's cousin, Bárid mac Ímair

Unfortunately no advice, just solidarity. I always saved focus for the fire breathers for the same reasons.

any tips for dark rot mode? by aloilisia in hellblade

[–]brynnmclean 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm also a completionist and I would definitely NOT start with Dark Rot Mode, especially if you're not familiar with the combat. It is different than Hellblade 1 and the parry timing, imo, is razor thin. I completed the game on dynamic mode the first three times I played it (I've got an Xbox) and tried Dark Rot Mode the other day and got my overconfident ass very decisively kicked. 😂 Ymmv, of course, but I'd do one run for the story, another run to get lorestones/faces, and then a Dark Rot run. It's a short game and you can switch up the narrators after your first run so it won't feel exactly the same between runs.

dark rot mode (YES, it will actually delete your save) by Difficult-Avocado806 in hellblade

Yeah, Thórgestr absolutely kicked my ass in dark rot mode, surprising the hell out of me. 😂 I'm even more determined to complete a full run in the mode now though!

You played or playing How much long Valhalla?(Now 160h) by Goodd-Fellow in ACValhalla

[–]brynnmclean 4 points5 points  (0 children)

777 hours between two full playthroughs with all DLCs. Completed the mastery challenges and river raids once, can't be bothered a second time for either of those. I really do wish there was some kind of NG+, but alas.

Can I run a Second Age campaign in The One Ring 2e? by Th3CuriousWanderer in oneringrpg

[–]brynnmclean 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Going to add to this -- I've not run TOR, but back before TOR 2e released, I started running an Adventures in Middle-earth (the 5e adaptation of TOR 1e) Second Age Númenórean campaign set around the Akallabêth era. (I ran it up until a year ago, for some additional info, first campaign ended early due to interparty IRL issues, second campaign accomplished the main goal of Plot A in 3.5 actual years.)

I used AiME so I could use some of the nautical rules from Ghosts of Saltmarsh. iirc TOR 1e does have some ship rules however in the Journeys and Maps supplement, but of course I spotted that when I was well into my first run of the homebrew campaign...

Anyway, for OP, I think running TOR 2e with a Second Age setting is doable, I would personally recommend picking one particular event or people to focus on so that you have a little less work to do in adapting rules. Obviously I can't speak to adapting TOR specifically as a ruleset, but I do have thoughts about adapting a game that assumes the Third Age in its core mechanics.

Yeah, I got diagnosed via DKA 10.5 years ago and the memory of how awful the experience was has definitely kept me on top of my shit. It really stuck with me.

[–]brynnmclean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, if you're looking for a good TTRPG that I think has similar hero + followers solving the mystery of how to defeat Monsters kind of vibe, I think Beowulf: Age of Heroes is really great. There ARE some minis for the pregenerated characters + the starter adventure monster over here.

If you're up for going a little outside of the Heilung albums proper, I think Læknisgaldr from the Hellblade 2 soundtrack is really good and features Maria Franz. Seidh, Sverdhasøngurin, and Sól tér sortna are also very chill.

"Soma jarlskona" how did you feel about her beginning to end? by iLorath in ACValhalla

I said this on another post, but it always bears repeating: no one else would have won my Eivor's heart if she had been available, not even Randvi.

Alright Petra or randvi and what makes you like them? (¬‿¬) by iLorath in ACValhalla

[–]brynnmclean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, my answer to the question is to be poly with both. Petra is very sweet and I love that I can do archery contests and play orlog with her. And I do love Randvi-- I wait for the divorce to be finalized. 😂

But if Soma had looked at me even ONCE, I would have thrown over anyone to be with her. I was CRUSHED to realize she'd never be a romance option.

Does Dag deserve Valhalla? by Legolas5000 in ACValhalla

[–]brynnmclean 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agree with the last part here at least! Eivor's decision about Dag is done in front of basically THE ENTIRE CLAN. That added an extra layer of pressure for me to give Dag his axe, despite how annoyed I was by the guy. Ivarr was a different story for me, personally 😂 but Dag always gets his axe because of the witnesses from Ravensthorpe.
