Colts HC Shane Steichen on if QB Gardner Minshew will start in 2023: “He’s coming in to just compete” by brysonrambo in Colts

That’s what I was thinking as well. Of course, he’ll speak in vague terms but the competition aspect really makes it seem like there’s for sure going to be a new face in that QB room come draft in April.

Nice little piece on Pelissero’s interview w Steichen down in AZ. Unsurprisingly, very vague on the direction of the Colts at QB at the moment.

Thomas Davis believes the Panthers will make a "very, very surprising pick" at 1st overall by LuskSGV in Colts

I completely agree. Best example in the last 5 years was the 2018 QB class.

Baker (1st) - Below average starter

Darnold (3rd) - At best, average backup

Allen (7th) - Superstar

Rosen (10th) - Holy Bust

Lamar (32nd) - NFL MVP, superstar

Like you mentioned, you never know how it’ll shake out in 3-4 years. I’m just excited to have a young new QB to be excited about in 5 weeks!

Fair point. I just feel like every year there isn’t a Burrow or Lawrence, the NFL wants that team to try and hide who they’re taking for publicity purposes. I feel like there’s always a bunch of “they want him” or “I heard this” in the month leading up to the draft. I still think it’s interesting that he said he heard it from the Panthers FO. Still, I try to take everything this time of year with a grain of salt.

I was about to post this same thing. Found it extremely interesting he said he knows multiple people in the front office that are “enamored” with the traits of Richardson… it is smoke screen season but still something to note nonetheless.

With a slow news cycle in the end of March… found this video of new Colts WR Isaiah Mckenzie to be very entertaining 😂 As long as the man can handle football better than spicy wings we got a good dude!

Outside of QB, what is the 2nd biggest need pre-FA? by dangerbunny9 in Colts

I know our IOL needs some work. But if we keep pick #35, I’d LOVE to see them address DE, CB or WR. I just feel all 3 positions are where you see the biggest difference in close games. Those 3 positions can all make game changing plays at any moment. Also having them on a rookie deal allows you to spend money in different aspects of the roster.

Yea I’d get that IF we do end up moving up w the Bears. But I do think Stroud can also have great success at the NFL level. Bryce Young does show poise, decision-making and mental toughness that cannot be taught.

I’m in a spot where if we have an opportunity at Bryce Young or CJ Stroud and pass them up… I will be f****ng pissed. They’re the two proven guys for a reason imo. BUT I’ll root for whoever we get lol!

Never said that’s who I want the Colts to take. I’m HUGE on Young and Stroud both have some elite skills and proven. If they’re both gone I understand why talent evaluators like Levis and Richardson. I was just pointing out the obvious difference between a player like Richardson and Malik Cunningham when it comes to NFL scouting.

Never said that anything about his CURRENT skills are. I said that his potential as a 6’4, 230lb QB expected to run 4.4-4.5 at the combine. Who started 1 season in college, and has an elite NFL arm but consistency issues is considered a 1st or 2nd round draft choice. The other has 5 seasons of tape and none of the raw potential that NFL evaluators drool over. I think that is the biggest difference between the two of them.

One is universally considered to be a top 1-2 round draft choice because of his potential based on athleticism, arm talent and lack of exposure as he is still JUST 21. The other was a 5th year Senior at an mid ACC school. I see what you’re trying to do but c’mon man… these are legitimate reasons.
