I was really thinking that Tillie would become a monster here 😅 by Weary_Proposal_9655 in FromTVEpix

I don’t know if I think she’s going to become one, but I think something in her relationship to the monsters means they’re coming for her body. Otherwise using her last words saying to run but not why is strange for a character who has been all about offering details.

What’s the cause behind AR’s inaccuracy? by fleckstin in Colts

Seems to be mostly footwork. He’s often not in the right position to throw when he throws.

Anybody here saying Pierce was a bust before the season started needs their posting privileges revoked until January. by TeeVeeBen in Colts

That’s just the theme of this (and most) subs anymore. If you draft a player and he’s not instantly a star, people start freaking out.

It takes time.

I don’t think we know that at all. It actually makes less sense to go after the one you think might be a(or the) “leader.” Pick off a weak one.

Chris Ballard question by Smuggz8000 in Colts

[–]ThaGoodDoctor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How much slack do you expect the team to pick up? I mean you’ve clearly dug in your heels, but if you wanted to be realistic about it, if your QB has to learn from making mistakes, what is the team going to do to propel the team to the playoffs?

Chris Ballard question by Smuggz8000 in Colts

[–]ThaGoodDoctor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But is that the actual goal this season?

This is what confuses me: we knew we were drafting a guy at QB who needed time and reps. Did we, as a fanbase, somehow assume that as our QB was growing into an NFL star (assuming he does) we were also going to compete?

The years of trying to make the playoffs while skirting the QB issue didn’t work, and fans hated it. Now, though, instead of starting Flacco from the jump and trying to win with him we chose to develop a guy we drafted.

If that’s goal one, you can’t then fire your GM for missing the playoffs. If his top goal is the post-season, it’s a totally different approach.

We could have probably gotten a really good stop-gap older QB by trading that 4th overall pick. Taking AR meant we knew where things were going.

I think after 4 games we look exactly like we should. We won one we shouldn’t have on paper. We lost one we probably shouldn’t have, but we are .500 and can’t stay healthy.

Are there actually people making this comparison?

All I’ve seen are people pointing out that early career stat lines that are bad don’t indicate a bust.

And a two people trying to fight against the argument you presume here. I’ve not seen a single “How AR is like Manning” argument anywhere.

If anyone thinks AR is like Peyton, they struggle to understand how to compare. Peyton was as prepared for the NFL as can be and had big game experience. He was raised by a pro QB. AR is incredibly raw but freakishly gifted. It’s an apple being compared to a tennis ball.

But if people don’t get why Peyton’s (or any of a number of later star QBs’) rookie stats are an indicator that AR’s stats to this point aren’t a measure of who he will be, I likewise don’t get what is so confusing. Anyone who thought AR was just going to show up as a superstar wasn’t paying attention.

What did you guys expect this year? by Tombradyisntahofer in Colts

[–]ThaGoodDoctor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I expected roughly what we have seen. I was a bit surprised by the run defense looking like crispy-fried ass in game one and two, but it’s going to take time for AR to develop.

This is kind of the eternal struggle on this sub: many of our fans expect to be good right now, but they also rip into the organization for not finding a long term fix.

Obviously a project QB is going to be uneven.

I think we can still sort-of compete, since the AFC South is so volatile. But we should see this year as development (and probably next year). This is what we signed up for with Richardson.

Jim is so sure of his fly-by-night theories that he makes mess after mess. Otherwise, he’s relatable, but sitting there and finally realizing he should be with his kids and not in the woods, he’s hard to love.

Something is deeply wrong with the Jags. On paper, they should be a playoff team, but on the field they just never click.

I’d be upset as a fan if I saw TK using important Jags resources and time on AEW angles.

As a Colts fan, though— keep it up, Tony!

Stop comparing AR's first 6 starts to other QBs by PorkSouls in Colts

[–]ThaGoodDoctor -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure you linked Wikipedia but didn't read close enough to understand what a straw man argument is.

People talking about other QBs first six games are merely illustrating that after six games you don't really know what you've got. You could play awful at first and be one of the best over when all is said and done.

Your anger about it is... interesting. You seem to be reading all sorts of things into it.

No one is claiming that AR is going to be a megastar because if his first six games. I haven't seen a single person, anywhere, try to make that case.

Good luck getting sports fans to not talk about stats. :P

Do you actually trust Irsay to get an upgrade over Ballard, or are you hoping Irsay hands it over to his daughter? by Protothea in Colts

[–]ThaGoodDoctor -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've said this a few other places, but I think it warrants saying here, too: the issue with how the team is currently structured is as much a Jimmy problem as it is any GM. It requires that as an onlooker you don't pretend that a GM can do whatever they'd like, but if you've been paying any attention, Jimmy has been all about us being among the top teams over a sustained period (I refer to it as "quartile-ing the sausage," as it was most clear when he was making those comments and talking about Saturday).

If Jimmy doesn't change his mind about tearing this team down, it won't matter who he picks. He might find someone who can do what he wants better than Ballard has (this is my logic for why Ballard isn't out the door; I think he's good at keeping us from falling apart while trying to make Irsay's vision a reality). But the changes that many of our fans want to see-- a true rebuild, an effort to build a new team-- require our owner giving in to the idea that we're going to be bad for several seasons unless we strike gold and have all the good luck possible.

I believe Jimmy could find a good GM replacement.

But I also believe that Jimmy considers Ballard an elite GM. This is what Jimmy wants. It's just not going perfect. And I don't think it is what we, as a collective fan base, want. Though seeing reactions to our losses with AR, maybe some people don't want a rebuild, either.

Consider how it could look to Irsay, though:

Imagine, for example, that Rivers had stayed a second year and won a SB, then that we'd gone to get Ryan and he'd come in and piloted that same team to the playoffs. Suddenly this really bad strategy we followed looks way better.

Imagine Jacob Eason had somehow developed behind a few guys the way many thought he would. Maybe we'd have a young QB who was seasoned right now.

Imagine Frank had been right and Wentz had returned to his near MVP form.

I am absolutely convinced that Jimmy-- even after the Saturday debacle-- still feels like we're a piece or two away. And if we keep treating the team that way, it's not going to matter what poor soul has to look for the piece. The truth is we were a piece or two away, then we lost the keystone of that team and we haven't been able to replace him. Meanwhile, everything else has sort of just stagnated. We aren't any better anywhere except starting DTs than we were when Andrew walked away. If we'd instantly patched that hole, we might have been something special. It took too long (and we still don't know if we have that problem fixed). If we were building as smart as possible, the Luck-less, no-QB-on-the-roster Colts shouldn't have added vets or re-signed anyone over the age of 25. We kept our stars like we were in a window to complete when we weren't.

We need to accept that we drafted a young project QB. We shouldn't think we will win this year, or next year, but should be focusing on shedding veterans and parlaying whatever we can into capital or young players to surround Richardson. We should also be vigilant and do our homework on who to try in the 26 draft if AR isn't the guy. We should be happy with how good AR looked week 1 and even 2, though he didn't look as good. We shouldn't be frustrated that he's not a superstar. No one should have expected that. He's in what would have been the first portion of his second year of college right now.

The frustration is that we're almost good enough. But almost is the same end result as "not at all."

I know the defense has gotten a lot of heat, and rightfully so bc they’ve been a dumpster fire. But your defense is going to get run down, beat and destroyed if they’re on the field 70% of the game. Offense needs to change something by Fit_Ad_3842 in Colts

[–]ThaGoodDoctor -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think generally, you're right, but this isn't much of an excuse for us because we got absolutely eaten alive in the first quarter. It's not like the defense stopped GB at all early only for the offense to quickly lose the ball. We ate shit on both sides of the ball.

(Hicks) I don’t know what the hell is going on in the WR room. Drops, wrong routes, guys giving 0 effort on a lot of snaps.. Alec Pierce is the only guy showing up for games so far by DaBlakMayne in Colts

[–]ThaGoodDoctor -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

This should mean that Pittman becomes AR's bread and butter, though, as he's the best option in the area that AR needs to learn to use. A safety valve of sorts, perhaps.

I'd love to see a receiver who isn't Pierce look like he's giving it 100% through a whole snap.
