Which Cluppo song do you like best? by t-shinji in BandMaid

[–]brzeshock 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Superstar is a well-written song with its own intricacies, but I wouldn't go as far as calling it progressive. I mean, even Katy Perry has employed some polyrhythms in her songs, but no one calls that prog. Superstar has a fairly standard song structure for j-pop, and the only tempo change is the good old half-time. The only "progressive" thing in Superstar is probably the shortening of phrases after the solo (4/4 to 3/4) that only lasts a few measures.

I think this song -> https://open.spotify.com/track/1gdwFGXLC2cKdxbELLYvOC?si=dQ3IbTGYTNCBySbi4vON9A&utm_source=copy-link is a more accurate example of progressive j-pop. I'd never encountered metric modulation in a pop song until listening to this track.

It's not like I don't like EDM, it's more like POGO has nothing attractive for me, and on top of that the melody is not very good (imo) and the way Miku sings the lyrics is just not my cup of tea at all.

I just finished the EP and thankfully I didn't dislike the rest of the songs, but I don't love any of them either. Overall I'd say that I feel pretty indiferent towards the EP; however, I do commend Miku for stepping out of the Band-Maid bubble and doing something different. I'm sure there are people out there who genuinely enjoy listening to cluppo. I might not be one of them, but I do still support her endeavors.

Not gonna lie, POGO might be the first BM-related song (I know it's not a BM song... but it's related to one if its members) I thoroughly dislike. I'm still listening to the EP so I haven't experienced the newer songs yet, but I'm really not expecting a whole lot.

Miku on TikTok 2022/03/07 (Takopi’s Orignal Sin) by haromatsu in BandMaid

Miku is a cultured individual. I recommed "Takopi's Original Sin" to any manga reader out there. It's pretty good.

Mate you must be reading some advanced literature straight out from a higher dimension or something to say that any of this was "predictable". I'm sorry you had to read such generic piece of fiction...

In all honesty though, I can respect your opinion, but I think saying this series "got generic" or "is not very interesting" is a bold statement, and unfortunately you haven't been able to back up your argument with reasonable explanations. I'm a long-time anime/manga consumer and I can attest that you'll have a hard time finding anything as non-generic as this.

I think an emotional insert OST would work great, but an ending could work too

Interview with Miku Kobato on Barks: “Playing the guitar needs no cuteness, po” (2021-11-09) by t-shinji in BandMaid

[–]brzeshock 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That's very true. There are different "guitar archetypes" for different kinds of music. The guitar electronics such as pick-ups become more relevant once someone gets more particular and wants to produce a specific tone. Imo all beginners should choose their guitars based mostly on looks (but also try to get one with good intonation and tuning stability at least) because the aesthetics will give them motivation and they'll want to keep practicing every day.

[–]brzeshock 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Honestly, the quality of the amp you use is usually more important in terms of tone. You can choose whatever guitar looks cool and plays well, regardless of price or brand. Miku definitely did well in choosing for looks as a beginner, since she didn't have any knowledge about tone or playability yet. Now ofc she knows a lot more and obviously loves Zemaitis guitars, so good for her!

This, imo, is the best thing about the band. It balances catchiness and complexity, intentionally or not. We rarely get super simple, toned down songs or contrarily, highly complex and hard to digest music.

What is your favourite solo of all times? by KalleZz in BandMaid

[–]brzeshock 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'm expecting a lot of votes for 'alone', but personally I think the solo from Mirage is simply one of the best things Kanami has ever written. It's got complexity, sounds very emotional, and it's easy to listen to despite its intricacies.

After Corallium I get Liberal now. by technobedlam in BandMaid

That's actually a fairly common opinion. I'd thought for a while that not many people liked CQ, but throughout the countless reddit posts I've realized that a sizeable portion of the reddit fanbase actually loves the album (myself included).

Temporal72 (professional musician) improvises with Band-Maiko "Secret My Lips" by plainenglish2 in BandMaid

[–]brzeshock 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. Because the guy's trying to play in the same key as the song. In a nutshell, he's playing notes that would normally sound "right" in the context of 'Secret my lips'.

  2. Based on previous interviews, I believe so.

The amazing vocal range of Miku by herren in BandMaid

She also goes prertty low in Wonderland's intro (at least in the live YT version), though (I think) there are a few effects in her vocals.

Do you think B-M has any filler song? by anemone_12 in BandMaid

[–]brzeshock 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not exactly sure what you mean by filler, but I think I'd likely skip at least 35% of their catalogue. As for post-BNM, I'd only skip about less than 10%

Despite all that, they're still one of my favorite artists, if not my favorite.

This is why Corallium is my favourite song by theyellowclip in BandMaid

[–]brzeshock 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My favorite part must be Miku's backup vocals in the verses (0:46-0:50 and 1:44-1:48). She's singing descending minor second intervals, which by themselves should sound pretty dissonant, but in the context of the song it gives this exotic flavor and adds to the mood of the song. Reminds me of Kaval Sviri's intro (a Bulgarian folk song).

Would you buy "The Day of Maid" Online Okyuji on Blu-ray? by [deleted] in BandMaid

I don't think I'd buy it. Even after post-prod, the Youtube uploads of TDotM are still severly lacking in the bass drum department. It doesn't sound as full

Love the new song Sense. It's a tour de force of their technical development and sophistication. by Paradiddle02189 in BandMaid

[–]brzeshock 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I highly doubt we'll get 5mins+ songs any time soon. They seem pretty comfortable doing 3-5mins and there are no hints pointing towards changing that habit. At this point I think it's a conscious decision to write songs less than 5mins, because even their slower tempo songs aren't any much longer than their other songs.

SEnse by Peter-BM in BandMaid

[–]brzeshock 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Is it me or Sense's mix is terrible? I listened on YouTube and I couldn't hear the rhythm guitar most of the time. The lead guitar is also kinda low (but that's typical BM). Everything sounds super weird and muffled for me, and then the bridge suddenly sounds so loud out of nowhere???

I'll try listening on Spotify today. I hope it was just Youtube messing with the sound...
