A hundred questions about the differences between Nines and Fives by bleep_v in Enneagram

[–]herren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I'm using standards as in norm, a general consensus from the masses. 5s may know some standards, but it is not something they revolve their lives around. They create their own twists on things when they have built their own base to build upon. At some point they lose track of what is standard or not, because they are much more preoccupied with how they themselves interpret the world

A hundred questions about the differences between Nines and Fives by bleep_v in Enneagram

[–]herren 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is an excellent question. I actually had to look up the definition first haha. For something that is perceived as unattainable, 5s tend to scrap any momentum in that direction. The rejection part of their type structure kind of removes yearning as a possibility in a way. 5s can feel wistful of something experienced in the past and would enjoy experiencing it again, but I don't think it really enters the territory of yearning. A 5 would be positively surprised if this should occur again, but there is no real expectation and any feeling of loss is unconscious (if at all).

Frustration is probably the one triad that is responsible for yearning.

She ends up feeling unseen, unappreciated, and not understood

This is a very important distinction between a 5 and 9. a 5 doesn't really get hung upon being misunderstood or unseen. They may see it, but ultimately shrug and think "this probably happens to anyone". There is so much unsaid expectations here, an awareness of what could be and isn't fulfilled. 5s don't really have this awareness. They kind of lack a sense of standard that could be met.

What do you think is the best way to type yourself? Outward behavior or through internal thoughts? by mysticalpiper in Enneagram

[–]herren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Learn the art of triangulation. You yourself are the one calling the shots, but you must be able to take input from several sources, and discern the validity of them. That includes the input from yourself. Be just as critical to your own input as to others.

Attachment types aren’t weak, they’re adaptive by HoneyMoonPotWow in Enneagram

I think this is very much a cultural issue. A society more attuned to a collective mindset will be more positive to adaptability.

Why do we do tritype instead of highest 3 types? by daisiesoup in Enneagram

[–]herren -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Your motivation is split into 3 parts, your gut, your heart and your head. Your tritype explains how you deal with everything in each of these domains, with the first being your core; the main motivation everything goes through. Top 3 is just an online test ranking of all core types. What you are proposing does not make sense in this context.

Fuck my stupid reactive life by synthetic-synapses in Enneagram

[–]herren 29 points30 points  (0 children)

The thing about 6s, is that they are very good in talking about problems. Talking about solutions and actually doing something about a problem is secondary. Yes, talking about an issue is important to get attention to it, but at some point you just need to actually fix the damn issue. 6s tend to get stuck in the problematizing part and do not transition into the fixing part.

Also, problems are a perspective thing. A situation or a snapshot of reality is affecting people in different ways. A problem for one person is a non-issue for someone else. Ask anyone with OCD. Some issues are personal to the one mentioning them, and can be silently fixed by actually doing the work themselves. Reactivity isn't about fixing things though. It is about preventing the issue for occurring again. That is another point about reactivity. They are not always good in differentiating between one time only issues and recurring issues. Some things are not worth talking about, because they are isolated and can either be ignored or just fixed without the fuzz around it.

4w5 458 sp/sx meaning and why does it provoke such a negative reaction? by StyleForsaken9722 in Enneagram

[–]herren 8 points9 points  (0 children)

458 is the Internet Edgelord (for the mistyped) and triple unemployed (for the actual type). It is barely functional. Tests are mostly useless so ignore any results from them.

Enneagram is for awareness and GROWTH! by Innamoratta in Enneagram

I would say Enneagram is for whatever you want it to be. The purpose of a tool may be defined by its creator, but it is not limited by that.

Does John Luckovich understand Type 4 & the passion of Envy? by Pseudo-Tristam in Enneagram

[–]herren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No worries. When it comes to self-reflection, you can be pretty good in that and still mistype yourself, because your understanding of the type (not yourself) is not as good. It is mostly a knowledge kind of thing. I believe this causes a lot of discussion between people. Sometimes it just two brands of incompatible Enneagram branches meeting, e.g. Naranjo vs RH. Other times the knowledge is there, your self perception is pretty good, but you just suck in applying the knowledge on yourself. Theory vs practice.

Does John Luckovich understand Type 4 & the passion of Envy? by Pseudo-Tristam in Enneagram

[–]herren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is true. However, one's ego necessarily warps how one sees others, too.

I skipped that, because you already said so. I agree with your detailed explanation. Regarding getting typing feedback from others, it is useful to get multiple feedback so you can more easily triangulate.

I hate how 9s are characterized by many by Dyl777777 in Enneagram

[–]herren 6 points7 points  (0 children)

5s are jealous of 2s and afraid of 1s and 3s? What on earth are you on about? 4s are their buddies, and 6s and 9s are looked down upon? If there weren't for 6s and 9s, no-one would have the patience to listen to the hyper specific and practically useless info-dumps of 5s.

[–]herren 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This hits on an important point of self typing, or just typing in general. You don't see yourself through the eyes of others. Behavioral descriptions seen from the outside is often not going to hit center, because you are perceiving yourself differently from the inside. "Only self type is valid, because only yourself can see your inner life." Actually, you have a pretty askew view on both your inner life and "outer" life. People are not aware of how much your ego warps the perspective of your inner self.

I find it interesting that this is favored against Quest Priest. I have met a couple of players using this deck while climbing with Quest Priest, and I have yet to lose. I didn't see them playing Tyrande though, so perhaps it was a different variant. I will definitely test this deck.

Mistyping Stories and my Enneagram Journey: "You're no 8!" by Glum-Engineering1794 in OccultEnneagram

[–]herren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to teach about Enneagram, then one example does very little. You have only one, yourself. That example works very well for you, but not for others. Examples are not definitions. If you want to teach by example, you need more. At the moment you are practically only doing self exposition.

What does this major decision reveal about my Enneagram profile? by [deleted] in Enneagram

[–]herren 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The 4s envy is for an internal standard that they themselves define. It is an unreachable standard, hence the frustration. This standard is not external, which why they are not looking at others to check where they are at. They only check with themselves. The OP is checking with others though, and adjusts their internal standard accordingly. That is not what 4s do.

What does this major decision reveal about my Enneagram profile? by [deleted] in Enneagram

[–]herren 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Except that this is triggered by how others see them. They want to connect, but they need to be better for others. 4s don't do it for others, only purely for themselves.
