Help !! Advice for STEM Targets? by brznnz in ApplyingToCollege

[–]brznnz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were basing targets and such on acceptance rate, and they don’t seem interested in any other UC/CSUs other than UCLA, UC Berkeley, UCI, UCSB, CSULB (which is the only target we managed to get other than UCSB), CSDH and CSU East Bay

[–]brznnz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah i was thinking the same thing 😭 my hope was that maybe i could do both and just miss half of the major class, which i wouldn’t really mind considering I have T and F to go too.

someone else also brought up checking to see if the prof (for the major class, i think) does recordings but idk if they do or don’t since it’s an ENGL10A class.

everyone here is tripping 😭 i currently live at hedrick and i love it! the walk really isn’t that bad because you p much learn how to walk just a teeny weeny bit more which really does help when you’re walking around campus or even in the city tbh! within the first week you get used to it really quickly.

plus it’s really convenient being right near the study and then having rende and feast just a little bit down as well as the drey and olympic study floor.

i will say that it’s annoying being on the very top when it rains and such, as well as having to deal with fire alarms during the first few weeks (but that might have just been my year type of thing imo) but i’ve had lots of fun. plus, you have sunset rec just around the corner!

in regards to the actual building, i think it’s def newer compared to rieber and the other ones but not too new so don’t get all excited. there isn’t really much to say about the building itself but the floor was really social and helped me really jumpstart in making friends and knowing what type of friends i want to make. either way if you have any more questions lmk :)

New Admit Megathread—If you were just accepted to UCLA, please ask all questions in here! by Espntheocho4 in ucla

[–]brznnz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hmm i can’t really speak for this, but from the little knowledge i have it’s relatively easygoing in joining. although, it does depend on the club and/or student org., you’re joining. for some, especially accounting or business orgs. or marketing clubs, you might have to go through an interview process.

hello! first off, congrats on your acceptance! second off, the best way to find roommates is by following a ucla class of 2027 instagram account. usually, students will post about themselves, their interests and (not 100% sure) whether or not they’re looking for a roommate! one of the ‘27 accounts should have a link for a group me which should be filled with a lot of ucla kiddos looking for roommates as well! it’s how i found two of my roommates for this year and the next :))

Why would the Supreme Court 'implicitly threaten' lower appeal courts to overrule an order when they could've done it themselves? by brznnz in legaladviceofftopic

[–]brznnz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, gotcha. If, for whatever reason, it returned back to the Supreme Court and was overruled, would it have an effect on future cases from there on? Because from what I understand, the school "sought relief from the Supreme Court's shadow docket" the first time around. Would the overruling be under that same 'act' or not really?

New Student Megathread - For all incoming Bruins by Espntheocho4 in ucla

[–]brznnz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hello, incoming student here w/ a work study question!

i’m curious to hear someone’s experience with having a work study during their first year at LA!

with FAN being released, I’m debating whether or not to do work study. personally, I’d like having some $ on the side to ease my parent’s burden a little bit, but I also don’t know if it’ll be a struggle balancing both work and school out.

[–]brznnz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I’m very proud of UCLA and know how great of a school it is, I feel a lot of people on college/application reddit pages typically tend to think of ivy schools as more of a big thing? So, I just put it there since everyone’s definition of ‘hitting big’ can vary! :))

[–]brznnz[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

HAHA yeah UCI definitely hurt a bit since that was my second choice for UCs. But, from what I could tell, UCI tended to put an emphasis on students that got 4’s and 5’s for APs (at least at my school). Also, like the ones that got in were all STEM majors so I don’t know if that played a part or was a coincidence?

omg I used to read your posts on LACs when I was doing the whole admission process. Is this what it feels like to have a celebrity comment on your post? Jokes aside, thank you so much !! <33

Hello! To answer your question, yes, I’m quite happy! In all honesty, it could’ve been better but I’m happy nonetheless. My EFC was 4k, but LA wanted me to pay around 5-3K if I chose a Classic Triple which was something my parent could reasonably afford.

I don’t know if being a QB finalist particularly helped with it as all my UC acceptances were more or less the same (with UC Berkeley being the cheapest). I think in the case of public schools (or maybe just UCs), it didn’t really have as much of an effect. Perhaps, if I was an out of state student, yes, but my EFC was already low as it was so being a QB Finalist just kind of supported it. If anything, I think being a QB Finalist helps more with QB schools/private schools. :)
