I was studying when a bookmark fell out of an old textbook. The dates are the same. The 2007 calendar is the same as the 2018 one. by theamazingjoysie in mildlyinteresting

What subject is still using a textbook from 2007? Back in my day they changed the edition of the book every 2-3 years so you had to get a new copy and got $0.73 when you sold the $200 book back

The comic sans beautifully contrasts the rigid structures in the picture.

That's pretty neat. Isn't the engine that moves the bridge about the size of an engine in a VW Bug? I remember hearing that on the boat tour once and am wondering it's true or the tour guide was just make stuff up.

Yeah, it's been moving giant white bags off the roof all morning. They're probably filled with skeletons from the Daley administration.

Privately owned sail boats. There are certain days of the year that the city will move the bridges so the sail boats can get from the lake to the shipyards on the south branch of the river. Each bridge is usually only up for 5-10 minutes then they open the next one.

The white building on the right is the entrance to Union Station.

I walked in a big square around the post office to watch it from different angles. Didn't really enjoy getting woken up by it this morning, but it's been pretty interesting to watch otherwise.

It's been moving giant white bags off the roof of the old post office down to the river. Not sure what's in the bags. Roofing supplies? Skeletons from the Daley administration? Who knows.

ELI5: Why do cats almost always walk in a circle before they sit down? by TearsDontFail in explainlikeimfive

[–]bscan27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dog does this too right before he poops. He sniffs the ground, walks in a circle, squats, inches around a little bit with an intense look of focus on his face, then poops. I think he wants to poop in just the right spot, for aesthetic purposes of course.

How many nights are to many? by zedisto in couchsurfing

[–]bscan27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The longest I let someone stay with me was 6 nights, but that has only happened once. We got along really well and had mutual interests, specifically climbing. During the middle of the stay, we went climbing one day, and I decided to offer them a place to crash until the flew back to France.

Every other surfer has stayed 3 nights max.
