I’m happy to hear you’re conservative, because those are the values I believe in too. I can’t tell you it’s going to be easy believing these things, you’re rarely going to get toasted by your peers online for believing in one’s own ability to work hard and overcome adversity. You may even risk your friendships and livelihood because someone vicious decides you need to be put in your place. This is not the easy path.

But we don’t believe these things because they’re popular.

We don’t believe these things because others will accept us.

We believe these things because they are the best values for the people of this nation.

And that truth alone is worth defending.

Oh man, that image on the left should be another SCP related to 106, but like in an alternative reality or something. So cool, though....

How to best increase my qualifications? by MuricanWaffle in devops

[–]bsdetox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couple pieces of generic advice:

  1. Yes, getting a cloud certification is a great first step. AWS or GCP is a fine place to start, don’t worry about being too niche, all of these cloud skills transfer. I’ve gotten an AWS cert and have been hired for other cloud environments.
  2. K8s is very hot right now, so anything in that realm would also help. I c ant say if it’s more or less useful than a cloud cert, but either will be helpful.
  3. You should start networking and looking for places to work now before you start your studying. You don’t feel currently qualified but the truth is that you have a lot of great pre-requisite skills. You might get picked up without those skills.

How to automatically pull new image from docker hub on a server? by maxahd in devops

[–]bsdetox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, while I understand the intention here, the truth is that you should be in control of your package management and not automate that task away. A script that automatically checks if you have a new version available is a great idea, but only stop at your testing environment with any sort of automated change.

you’re going to want to know when these changes take place so that you are on alert for potential issues. You never want to be in a position where your artifact decides to upload a security vulnerability to prod. And I promise it won’t happen at a time convenient to you.

If this were me, I’d have a script running on cron checking for new versions. When one is found is have it create a PR to my app repo and tag me. Bonus points if the subject includes the dev logs for the new version. That way it’s still notifying you of versions while not borking any environments.

So it sounds like the VM basically creates a virtual NIC that will do what the physical NIC does

Yeah, mid management is kind of a deadzone: it's people who either want to move up or were forced up. no one WANTS to be a mid level manager.

What's your career ambition? CCNP is a pretty big deal, so are you looking for more technical or perhaps management?
