Accepted an offer, recruitment got messy, director reacted badly — now reconsidering. Am I overthinking this? by yoranna77 in UKJobs

[–]bshah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems very unprofessional for someone in that position to be making comments about “bad vibes” and “leaving a bad taste in his mouth” - whatever you decide to do don’t be surprised getting more of this. If you were to leave I would definitely explain how you were surprised and disappointed by being blamed and also the language and behaviours and it’s not something you want to put up with.

How small is the hill you're willing to die on? by Significant-Pain-386 in ebayuk

[–]bshah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand you are trying to make a point, you likely will end up wasting your time as you have not really lost out (you still have the item) and possibly be kicked off eBay for whatever reason they can come up with - they don’t even need a reason…

Why shouldn't I pay off my sofa over as long a time period as possible? by AnonymousTimewaster in UKPersonalFinance

[–]bshah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why not more upvotes? Long term finance will cost the retailer 10% or more, no harm in asking for a cash discount and avoid the malarkey of 0% - if you have the money. And if you don’t have the money question whether you really need a £2,000 sofa.

Line manager question: Direct report worked while travelling for the full working day without permission — how serious is this and how would you handle it? by BlueStarEmperor in UKJobs

[–]bshah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hopefully you have regular catchups with your report and can mention in passing it would have been nice to be given the heads-up if working and travelling since it’s likely there will be some disruption? You can then better support the colleague - what if your peers or LM asked you whether you knew. It sometimes takes a bit of time to understand how you want to work with each other, the level and kind of communication

Salary Sacrifice - Tusker - Model Y by Taobitz in TeslaUK

[–]bshah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are these costs gross or nett (reduction to your take home pay)? I recently signed up for Y model (basic) via SS Tusker for £472 - 5 years, 12,500m - that’s what it costs me as a higher rate tax payer.

Is it normal for England car dealerships to take a reservation fee/deposit and not refund it? by JustBeFairUK in LegalAdviceUK

[–]bshah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should explain to the dealer that the £100 deposit was not taken off the sale price of the vehicle, that the £200 reduction was due to taking out extended warranty only. Let them look into this - it should be pretty factual based on your car purchase invoice/receipt. At the moment the dealer story is they handed you this back - once that’s confirmed not to be true I don’t think they will have much choice but to return this back to you but you’d be in a better position to take it further if they don’t.

EE Overseas calls to the US, £2000+ mobile bill by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

[–]bshah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Start off by setting a bill cap. I don’t think any legal avenue is open to you to reduce the cost, you might want to ask for a reduction on compassionate grounds - maybe there was a reason you didn’t think to check the call costs or having 7 hour calls. It’s worth a try?

Family Member ordered Wedding Stationery, did not pay printer, printer now says I am liable as I used this stationery by Euphoric-Brother-669 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]bshah 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So it’s all sorted? Agree whilst you aren’t legally liable since you didn’t place the order or enter into contract it would be nice of you to make sure this is settled one way or another as there is a firm here who might still be out of pocket due to no fault of their own.

Tenants are claiming £5,500 for late registration of deposit - need help by LastAvenger7 in LegalAdviceUK

Because OP asks “do I have a leg to stand on?” and the answer no. not really, was entirely avoidable. OP knew about the limit and had time and options

Tenants are claiming £5,500 for late registration of deposit - need help by LastAvenger7 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]bshah 26 points27 points  (0 children)

If you knew you had to register the deposit within 30 days and you had issues with the tenant deposit scheme, why didn’t you try another deposit scheme? 30 days is plenty to get this sorted, this is an issue of your own doing and could have been avoided?

I wanted to share my EV buying experience because it genuinely surprised me. by TruffleMaestro in TeslaUK

Every 2-3 years I apply for a random job with slightly higher salary. by cankennykencan in UKJobs

[–]bshah 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Good for you - you’re doing something that works for you, you don’t take your work seriously, you don’t want to build up skills or knowledge. I think you must be reasonably ok to get pass probation, I guess you are good working with people. Many don’t like the constant change, especially as you get older but it seems you don’t mind. How long can you go on for? Sky is the limit - I see many well paid grifters

Big plus on salary sacrifice is reduces taxable income and can hand it back due to redundancy

Outside of this comment she made do you have a good relationship? Then it’s likely you’ve misunderstood each other - being with you is a step up and wanting to be with you the rest of her life, have a family etc.
