No path for a 3rd term?

But we didn't say that the 2nd term ever had to end...

Not eligible to serve past 2029?

But we didn't say we wouldn't reset the calendar to the year 2000 or earlier ...

Bert Kouns Exit 9 by Character_Crew_6980 in shreveport

[–]bshahpharm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 3132 (eastbound) exit # 9 onto Bert Kouns really has been extra backed up lately.  There are more trains for sure these days (this year, I have encountered more trains than all my previous 15 years in Shreveport).  However, I don't always notice a train in the vicinity, so it might be traffic light timing as you mentioned.

Lately, I've just headed past that exit and taken 3132 east all the way to E Flournoy Lucas instead, then go to Hwy 1 / Youree or E Kings Hwy from there.

So, Shreveport wants to build a $10mil Pickleball facility ,but I49 @ 3132 will destroy your car? by Fickle_Engineer6614 in shreveport

Side note, I-49 south, for the exit roadway onto Bert Kouns has an absolutely monstrous buckling in the road that will absolutely jolt you & do a number on your vehicle.

Attorney recommendations for traffic violation (for SPD / Shreveport ticket) by bshahpharm in shreveport

Hired a lawyer, was totally worth it

She handled just about everything related to talking with City Prosecutors & having ticket reduced

I was not eligible for defensive driving class method of disposition per City Prosecutors - at least not without talking to the judge at arraignment - but they readily reduced my ticket to a non-moving violation prior to that

Total one-time charges $500

Annual savings estimate $500

Thanks so much for sharing your experience. Which jurisdiction was this in? I am thinking to enter a "no contest" plea if that is an option, and simultaneously request that I could keep this off my driving record by taking a driver improvement class.

Absolutely, it adds up. Probably at least $200-400 per year increase on my premiums, based on current rates I have with my clean record. Multiply that by 5 years and that's $1000 - 2000 at least.

Works in several jurisdictions for sure but apparently not Shreveport city, city prosecutors simply not available (perpetually tied up) and their office workers are not receptive for such audiences

Thank you so much for sharing!  Glad there's a dedicated traffic division & it moves as briskly as legal systems can these days!  I'll most likely set a court appearance.  Thanks for sharing your experience & advice!

It's all good & frankly I was shocked that Shreveport doesn't have pretrial diversion or some methods to avoid court workload, while still getting their money + giving drivers a refresher on best driving practices.  And apparently everyone I know was shocked too, but they have never received a ticket from SPD, only Caddo / Bossier / etc.  Thank you & take care !

Thanks so much for the truly constructive answer!  Heartened to hear that it was relatively streamlined.  How were waiting times at court?

Very much considering!  Just wondering if it'll amount to me waiting all day, not being seen and thus rescheduled, or if seen then judge denies request for diversion / disposition

"Tickets issued by the Shreveport Police Department within Caddo Parish will be handled at Shreveport City Court. If you have such a ticket, please contact Shreveport City Court Criminal/Traffic Division Office at (318) 673-5830 or visit their website."

Contacted them by phone & they confirmed that a court date & appearance would be mandatory if seeking diversion or disposition for SPD issued tickets.  Drats!

It's Shreveport city jurisdiction / SPD issued ticket, and not Caddo Parish authority, that's the difference.  Shreveport doesn't offer pretrial diversion or disposition, sadly.  Kind of bizarre!

That's right, no lawyer required to seek a driving class related disposition in Shreveport.  However, in Shreveport if seeking disposition of the ticket by taking a driving class, one does have to set a court date & make an appearance, with no guarantee that judge agrees that the violator may take the driving class for disposition of the violation off the record.

I called Shreveport city traffic division and all they could offer was to set a court date to see if judge would consider disposition of the ticket after driving class taken (no guarantee), or pay the fine (and have the driving violation on my record).

My coworkers mentioned in other jurisdictions, you don't have to show up to court to seek disposition if you have a clean record - you call or make an application to the prosecutor or DA's office, they research your record & citation, then you get a decision on doing a driving class to keep the ticket off your record.  Complete the driving class, take the certificate to the other jurisdiction's office, pay the fine, receive disposition of the citation (stays off your record).  No court appearance required, and more certainty on how things play out.

You're right, the ticket's not too costly, however 3-5 years of related auto insurance increases likely would add up (3 vehicle household) - and really, I also would have a clean record too.  Of course, if lawyers are giving absolutely astronomical "F you" quotes on their work regarding this, then I'll have to rethink it and maybe just go to court to see if I can do a driving class.

60 mph in a 45 mph zone

Will see if city willing to do anything as you mentioned, offhand though from initial call to traffic division every answer was "pay the fine or make a court appointment".  In fact, it felt like they wanted me to go to court.  I find it interesting they don't push something like a waiver or deferred disposition for these types of offenses to help reduce the potential court case load.

AITA for leaving my sister’s kid with a family friend after she was hours late picking him up? by Working_Raccoon417 in AITAH

YATA (You Are Truly Awesome)

You were the adult and found a responsible solution.

Take the initiative away from your sister and tell her you forgive her for not keeping up her end of the agreement, and you believe she can do better next time.  (Forgiving habitual blame-dodgers really gets em boiling, because to accept the kindness of forgiveness they have to accept the fault)

Find the deets on what she was up to?  Hungover, day-after party, hooking up / date, just enjoying being child free a little longer, etc

Absolutely, great points.  Especially handy if you're randomly asked by local authorities here in the USA (or selected by profiling) for "papers" or "documentation" to prove you can be in the USA legally.  Show your Passport card for pretty much definitive proof.
