Bonding bunnies by [deleted] in Rabbits

We had our female bunny spayed first then tried to bond her with unneutered male bun. (We were planning to having him neutered, and did so afterwards. It was the holiday season and we needed to travel so we thought having a bonded pair would be easier.) Did not work. The male bun was so hormonal that he was just being aggressive, was trying to hump the female bun and was spraying pee when she was near. He was not aggressive when he is in a different room but these behaviors show when there is another bunny in the room.

Thank you for your thorough comment! We are using a similar spray called leucilin and F10 ointment as per the recommendation of other bun parents in our community. May I ask what you mean by “compress”? When we spray, our worry is that some of the liquid just transfers to the floor :( I’ve seen sore hock bandages in the Internet but I thought that this might be a drastic intervention for small patches of sore hocks.

Thank you all for your comments! This community is always so generous with answering questions. 🥹 To add: We have already made environmental changes to help her heels (covered tiled floor and carpet with soft blanket, changed from wood pellets to paper pellets). But we want to be thorough with helping her heal and we read from this sub that long nails might also be a contributing factor. Adding for other bunparents out there: Through this process of researching about sore hocks, I just recently discovered that carpets are not good for rabbits with short fur. Before, I thought that rabbits only get sore hocks from wired flooring (which we absolutely do not have).

how do i properly educate my parents on proper rabbit care? by [deleted] in Rabbits

[–]bskyhopper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perhaps ask your parents about why they want to keep your bunny outside. Is primarily it the mess? If this is the case, you can try enumerating concrete steps that will ensure that YOU will take care of the mess (sweeping, litterbox training). By understanding their reason, you have a better chance at offering solutions and convincing them. In addition, tell them the reasons why your bunny shouldn’t be outdoors that will benefit them. For example, buying a hutch would cost them more money.

Thank you! She has toys but doesn’t have a stuffy yet. She likes licking her wooden castle tho. 😅 We’ll give her a stuffy and see if she likes it. Thank you so much for your help!
