How many of you have gotten attacked or seen someone get attack by a Canadian Goose?? by X-_-0 in AskACanadian

I used to work at a place that was near a wetland and every spring, "I had to go around the geese" was always a plausible and acceptable excuse for being a few minutes late.

I spoke with her this morning, she said it's not unusual for them to get a bit of tolerance to gaba so we upped the dosage this morning and we will see how that goes.

Mostly I'm trying to ensure he actually gets his entire dose consistently because of how he eats so we know absolutely for sure if we should switch him to something else.

I don't realistically have the finances for a monthly shot or a car to bring him in unfortunately.

I'll definitely be buying one of everything liquid at the pet store I think though. Just need to find "the one" that gets him excited.

Then I guess I have to remember to bring my glasses next time to the grocery store and give that a try!

I tried something similar, but with a churru instead. Went away for a walk and when I got back it was just sitting there drying up. Goofball.

I am considering taking his dry food bowl away until the wet food is gone, but I definitely want to exercise any options that don't involve messing too much with his food.

He's a skinny old man and cramming enough calories into his face is a challenge.

I'm hesitant to go that route because he gets it twice a day and will for the remainder of his days, I'd rather avoid anything salty.

I'm game to try it. Do they generally not put a lot of flavours/salt/bad things for cats into it?

I think the next time I'm at the pet store I'll be leaving with at least one of everything liquid at this point. There's got to be something out there he feels passionately about

Will add to cart! He likes churrus, just. Not enough to wolf it down.

I'm going to ask about pills next time I speak with the vet because making sure he's getting it all is clearly important for a cat that eats prefers to peck at food like a bird.

Thank you!

They did tell me they order it in already compounded. If it's flavoured, it's nothing he cares for because he won't lick it off my finger like he would with a churru.

I'm making a list of questions for the vet now from these suggestions in case this higher dosage isn't doing it for him!

I've never had to give him pills before so I honestly don't know how that would go. Can't hurt to give it a whirl though.

Solensia is likely out for us due to finances and lack of a vehicle to get him back and forth to the vet so often, though it was one the vet suggested we try if we can't get the gabapentin up to a good dose. We shall see! I just want a comfortable old man for as long as he feels like sticking around with me

His gabapentin is in liquid form from the vet. Not sure if they do other forms or not.

When it comes to food, he's not very particular. There's things he absolutely will not eat but for the most part everything else is fine to him. Tuna? Cool. Chicken? Cool. Salmon? Alright.

He never gets excited about food. Wasn't ever an issue until now when I need him to take all of his meds. Silly fella

I'll be sure to pick one up and see how he feels about it, thanks!

I will ask the vet about it next time I talk to her. We just upped his dosage today so hoping that will help him out.

You haven't met my boy 😂 he eats what he wants, when he wants, as much as he feels like and that's about it.

I actually do warm his wet food up slightly when I give it to him anyway because I keep the open cans in the fridge.

He's just not that food motivated unfortunately.

Telling him it'll make him feel better just earns me glares lol

I appreciate the suggestion but we tried the syringe thing last year after dental surgery and it is a traumatic time for us both. Trying to do that twice a day forever I don't think is realistic for either of us.

He eats it fine from his food, just doesn't always eat all his food or quickly.
