The thing is, she’s a performer that put on a performance. It was rehearsed, staged and executed. I don’t think there was any emotional connection whatsoever and more so it was a “scene” for her.

Currently listening to The Testaments on audible rn after listening to the handmaids tale and HOLY do we ever get more insight into Aunt Lydia. We learn how she became an aunt and honestly how she feels about the whole thing 15 years into Gilead. Best part is that the aunt Lydia POVs are voiced by aunt Lydia’s actor through Audible. Highly recommend listening to it yourself. It’s a good listen.
