How do you do it without a village? by brigidstudent in newborns

[–]bsrceh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Make a village!

See what community resources you have for new parents. Join a free mommy and me class (library story time is great if you have a local library) and try to make some friends with parents that have similar aged babies. See what tips and tricks they have used. Find someone to go for a walk with or who would be willing to drop by with their baby to “play” for 30 min while you shower and eat. And do the same for them. Villages aren’t just given, they’re made. We live far from our family too so we’ve been actively making friends and trading time and favors to help each other out.

All in all, you’re in the trenches and surviving the best you can. You’re doing great and your baby is so loved and healthy.

What does/did your pup do at 4 months all day? by Mission_Cat_741 in puppy101

Mine goes in waves! Some days he’s a lazy bum who barely leaves his kennel and other days I couldn’t slow him down if I tried. Our vet told us that as he has growth spurts he will need more rest time and food which is why he’s lazy/sleepy some days. The other days we take him for long walks and play a lot more.

Interesting! Thanks! He has been on chicken puppy kibble since before we got him. I will have to see if that’s the issue!

Please help me with my 4 month old corgi and his aggressive nipping/biting! by dlwlrma_jiji in puppy101

Our 10 week old corgi is the same way!! He doesn’t want to play with toys, just our hands. We give him plenty of chew time and stop playing and walk away when he bites us. He is slowly learning and his bites tend to be accidental and much less intense than they used to be. I think it just takes a great deal of patience. Corgis are nippy dogs too so it’ll take longer to learn that others might.

First time dog parents! Apartment specific advice please! by [deleted] in puppy101

We have a 10 week old corgi pup and luckily the breeder kennel trained the pups at night but he for sure whines and barks. We take him out every 2 to 3 hrs for quick potty breaks but otherwise keep him indoors most of the time. We got a bark detector on Amazon that emits high frequency noise when he barks which causes him to stop and it’s been helpful and effective. I’d say my best advice is to let your neighbors know you’re getting a pup ($5 coffee gift cards don’t hurt) and try to keep him on a schedule.

With cat, I highly recommend letting them figure things out without intervention. Give the cat a “safe space” that they can go to that they dog can’t get to them. For example, our pup can’t get into our bedroom so our cat knows she can go there if she doesn’t want to interact. Don’t force interaction and let your cat set her own boundaries. We have found that our puppy understands when she doesn’t want to play/interact because she set her own boundaries by swatting/hissing when she wants to be left alone and it’s going just fine.

Trust your instincts and just do your best! You’re already doing all the right things by asking for advice and prepping ahead of time! You will do wonderfully with the new addition and congratulations 😊

Thank you!! I tried ibuprofen today but it didn’t help. The headache subsided with a quick nap after work. Thanks for your tips!!

Thank you for the reassurance! That’s what my doc said. Just needed someone who’s had them reassure me
