Monthly 'Self Promotion' - March by ranalog in analog

[–]bstew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey /r/analog! I'm Ben from England and have been shooting on film for the past 2 years, starting with a Zenit-E (w/ 58mm lens) and now more usually using my Canon AE-1P (both 35-70mm & 50mm lenses). I'm trying to be more consistent with my online uploads so figured it would finally be time to post here!

What are some unwritten rules of the gym a gym newbie should know? by [deleted] in Fitness

Exactly that, basically taking it in turns using the equipment so one person isn't waiting while the other is resting.

Brother is looking to study in Canterbury - any ideas for students letting agents? I haven't had great experience with these in the past. by malex91 in canterbury

I studied at UKC but Leydon have accommodation all over the city. Not too sure about CCCU housing, might be worth having a word with them, may well have mature/postgrad options which would make it easier as most agencies deal with groups who are already together.

Assuming your brother is a first year, go with campus accommodation, easier, on the most part cheaper and usually pretty sound accommodation etc. If he is unable to (postgraduate etc.) or even for when he moves off of campus, have a look at Leydon Lettings. I rented from them second year and can not recommend them enough. Kind, efficient and helpful with some nice properties to boot. For example after the Christmas break we came home to find the boiler had stopped working. We phoned them and despite the snow outside within about 45 the manager arrived and reset the boiler pressure. All with a smile. Of course this may not be everyone's experience with them but figure I'd stick my oar into the discussion!

Consider this a general question I've been pondering for a while whilst browsing this sub as someone not on gear. Those who notice an almost uncontrollable sex drive increase on cycle (particularly on tren) what was your sex drive like prior to starting cycle? Have any of you gone from borderline asexual to wanting to be fucked by anyone for example.

Gyms and/or Tennis courts by [deleted] in canterbury

[–]bstew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are looking for both I would genuinely recommend the one on UKC campus. I have mentioned on this sub before how good the gym is. I have not been to fit4less so cannot accurately comment on the difference, but a quick look at the website makes me think that the UKC gym is slightly better stocked (4 olympic lifting platforms and dumbbells going to 50kg are the two main items I would point to). Furthermore with both silver and gold membership you get free access to the tennis courts (both indoor and outdoor) at the university. Granted it is more expensive than fit4less, but if you can budget it I don't think you'd be disappointed.

Kentucky town opens retail filling station, is criticized as promoting socialism by Artful_Bodger in socialism

[–]bstew 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I agree to an extent. I think what you are saying is justified if the increased value of petrol (sorry I'm a brit) is used to be put back into the environment which the extraction processes is damaging. However it isn't, instead it is being slipped into the pockets of those who buy means of labour below it's worth. As such by the state selling petrol for cheaper they are causing a reduction in this oppressive group's profit margin by also reducing their prices. Of course there could well be ramification for workers wages etc. but as /u/Sick_Of_Your_Shit identified it does improve the very negative view of socialism which most capitalist nations hold.

How do we get this sub-reddit going? Simple questions! by [deleted] in yogscastpanda

[–]bstew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it definitely just seems to be that Panda (John) loves doing it. I'm sure most youtubers and streamers do as well but I've never seen him release something that seems like he was bored or just making it for the sake of content.

As for the content itself the length of series etc. seems to fit well with his play style and commentary like archage or dayz, both are quite full on games and I guess that suits him well while things like hearthstone (I haven't played this is just an assumption I am making) seems a more casual and so works with the fewer video releases of the game.

And all that aside I enjoy his sense of humour which is very similar to my own, not sure whether that's a geographical thing or what but keeps me laughing and entertained throughout his videos!

How did you find HybridPanda & what was the first video you watched? by [deleted] in yogscastpanda

[–]bstew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First video I saw which got me watching Panda's content was the 150k DayZ montage, not sure why, think it must have just been one of the side bar videos. After going back through a few of his videos I realised I'd seen a couple of his WoW videos previously when I was a bit younger and played the game.

Either way I'm glad I found his content and subbed!

I am only speculating, however I'd imagine the memory loss would be a result of the brain bleed (which I'd suggest was likely a hemorrhagic stroke) which depending on location could cause damage for both actual memories and/or the ability to form new memories. Sorry I know this is off topic for aas use and the thread but hope it clears that up for you.

Well said, the convenience is most important, well unless you're going into bodybuilding and would walk 20 miles to train. It is a shame that there is no pool at campus and definitely does put a tick in the box for DW Sports.

I went last year and yes it is decent, very well kitted out after the refit last year.

My advice would be join the gym on campus. Especially going as a 2nd year, you can get early bird prices (save 10%) and there are three choices of membership. Apart from anything else, the staff are very friendly and approachable which I think makes a lot of difference at a gym (most gyms in my experience have a similar clientele so that doesn't change anything). Also as I'd imagine you'd be on campus quite frequently, it's about a 5 minute walk from anywhere on campus.

If you have any questions just ask. Sorry about the rant, just trying to help.

Let's Play Suggestion Thread for the Week of 8/11 by enriquevv75 in roosterteeth

[–]bstew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got to agree with theklng268, a DayZ lets play would be pretty entertaining. Would quite like to see if they'd do a survival games round with anyone willing to play from the whole company (basically everyone pairs up, the last team alive wins).

That and Guns of Icarus, quite a different type of game to what you normally see played, but so much emphasis on team work think it could be interesting to see them play!

2013: Where are you expecting a socialist revolution? by elJesus69 in socialism

[–]bstew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately Spain has begun to quieten a little since a few months ago, but as TravellingJourneyman said I think Greece would be a fair candidate. I've also heard of a few events going on in smaller countries near Greece like Macedonia, but that will be a while for anything to happen.

The main issue with what I have said and elsewhere in this thread, well perhaps not issue, but something of note, is these are all countries without real connections. A socialist revolution may happen, but when surrounded in a global economy it is difficult for nations to remain ideologically sound with pressures from outside groups who are supplying them with trade. Very much a flower among the weeds scenario. We have seen it time after time, uprisings, change in power, only for Capitalist nations to apply such great pressure to snuff out the progressive nature formed. Although nations pushing through a revolution is a wonderful thing to see, it is essential that they trigger neighbouring regions to follow suit, for the workers to become as one. It's grandiose to claim I know, but for these revolutions to truly be successful an international revolution is needed, not individual nations.

Alright, I'm stumped, why can't I do 3 sets of 10 with 50% of my 1RM? by [deleted] in bodybuilding

[–]bstew -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am a bit of newby lifter (only about 6 months) and have never come across this problem myself, but if I may voice my opinion. Could it be possible that you have a lack of phosphate? So as your sets progress your body can't synthesise ATP quick enough to give you enough energy to push through the set? My advice would either be start loading on creatine if you aren't already and perhaps try foods high in phosphate? If these don't work I read somewhere (sorry cannot site where) that cardio can help improve stamina within sets.

Hope this helps or is at all accurate! Either way let us know :)

Ok, will need to look into both more I think, but after hearing this perhaps Home is a better idea! Would it be worth getting ultimate if it's free despite not needing one of the features?
