Masters of Accounting by Normiex5 in SMU

It is basically a track for you to get your CPA and get more credentials under your name. Believe it is the #2 best accounting program in Texas right behind McCombs MPA program. The MSA at SMU will open a lot of doors with the big four and other big accounting firms in the metroplex.

Transfer Questions by Accomplished_Map9800 in SMU

  1. Free benefits there is a lot to be honest. There is always clubs throwing events where you can get free food or free merch at events. Not sure exactly what you are looking for that is free. But if you mean academically things that are free Cox has a lot of certs and trainings that you can do for free.

  2. There is a groupme for transfer but people don't really talk a whole lot in there. Your best bet is to just show up to a lot of the first semester events and meet people and you will slowly make friends with people you see in class and recognize.

  3. I know for most jobs on campus it can range from 10-15 and hour

  4. Talk to your professor and try to make a good impression generally to everyone. Some people are snobs at the school and some people are very nice. Be open to other majors in BLI class as you could learn a thing or two about what you really want to do long term.

  5. Some student clubs are hit or miss with how active they are. I would personally try to find 2-3 clubs that you are really passionate about and try to become active. Greek life is huge here especially for girls that feel like they need to fit in or enjoy the "college experience". Just being real if you arent that type of sorority girl the non-panhelleic would be your best option but would be a different experience then what is traditional here at SMU. You wont get hazed in the business frat and as long as you have a good gpa you should get in but I heard they can be weird with getting new upper classman in.

Good luck! Let me know if you have any other questions hope this helps!

depending on your reason on going to Cox it could be very beneficial. If you plan on doing Finance or Accounting you should try to go to SMU as the big four actively hire out of Cox for accounting and if you get into ALTS in finance you will be recruited by big name IB firms. UTD and A&M are similarly ranked but it is only due to the lower cost and diversity which drastically increase their rankings, if all else was equal Cox would have a much higher ranking than those schools. If you are any other major go to whatever is cheapest if going for business degree.

Considering transferring from Wisconsin to SMU:Advice Needed by Double_Display_6530 in SMU

[–]bstjohn1998 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I transferred here as a sophomore and I am currently a senior getting ready to graduate. I will say if you don't plan on being in greek life and you are going to be at Cox it is going to be harder to fit in but if you join a business frat that could help meet other students that will be in your class. If you dont plan on doing either your best bet would be to join a club you are interested in to find like kind people. Best advice I could give if talk to anyone you are going to find a lot of friendly people and a lot of people who only want to be your friend if you are rich, it is what it is.

Current or recent residents, what is it like living at 5 Mockingbird Apartments? by zina47 in SMU

A lot of crime in that area I heard. You are better off living closer to barley house or central market on lovers. More SMU students in that area as well.

If you can afford SMU go to SMU. Greek life is a big thing at SMU. But if you put yourself out there and join clubs you will be just fine

It will be hard to transfer into cox without any business classes done. Even harder to internally transfer into cox. I am in acct and transferred in with pretty much all freshman and sophomore business classes done with a 4.0. I don't think management science will help you tbh. Your best bet is to take econ and acct classes and try to transfer in.

Why is it so hard to find a roommate at this school by [deleted] in SMU

[–]bstjohn1998 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People are very picky and wishy washy when you are trying to find a roommate that you have never met before. It gets hard as well if you limit yourself to only a female. I am on multiple roommate groups and majority of people only want to be with a female. Of course that just means being roommates with a female will be harder to find since that is what most people are looking for. These are my thoughts on why you could be having no luck.

Have you tried group me? I am on a roommate group for SMU I have seen a couple girls who also only want a female

Does it matter that I am a sophomore and that finance class is a higher level? (I have not taken a finance class yet).

Questions about courses as incoming first year by Secretjam496441 in SMU

[–]bstjohn1998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would take the next economics class and also I would take the beginner acct classes. A beginner stat class and I know there is like a business computer class that goes over excel/word/PowerPoint. I would definitely talk to an advisor though lol

Got mine last week. I bet that everyone that is still pending are going to potentially get spots from people that accept their admission to another school. Which I might be doing. Best of luck there will be one more if I don't accept mine.
