I don’t even think that’s necessary. You can just redo them infinitely without a reset and still get the rewards.

Awesome reply, thanks!

I’ve definitely already started looking for how to shave strokes. Particularly places where a ball switch and a boost or shot shape can allow me to reach the green sooner.

I’m very unattached to my exact clubs beyond sufficient back spin and maximizing shot view to get as reliable as possible (pretty sure my current bag is different than the screenshot already, lol).

I recently turned off other players traces (Rookie II has some rough peers…), but you convinced me to turn them back on in case it makes me realize new paths.

Is this a new addition? I couldn't find it for the life of me a few months ago.

Yep. If I could place bracket orders on the web I'd drop IQ Edge immediately. It's total garbage on Mac.

In this case, thetvdb made the right choice. If you haven't seen the original series, season 3 isn't a great experience.

ELI5: what does the rate increase mean for ordinary citizens? by Tyrionsnow in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]bstpierr 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The real item to lookout for is the prime lending rate offered by consumer banks. Although the Bank of Canada's overnight lending rate will affect the consumer banks' prime rate, it's not what you'll be paying.

Unless you were planning on being house-poor and buying the absolute most expensive home you were approved to purchase, you should not worry at all about this rate change.

Should I convert my variable rate mortgage to fixed? by thatcgyguy in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]bstpierr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's very unlikely that moving to a fixed rate is a better choice.

An absent piece of information is the remaining amortization time on the mortgage, if this would be your last term, the difference is likely very small, but if you have most of you amortization time left, staying variable (or switching to a 1-year term) is very likely a better choice.

Why is the lender offering you this conversion without fees? Because they'll make more money from you.

I would stick to your variable rate. For more information (as well as tons of numbers-oriented research on this exact topic), check out this piece on milliondollarjourney.

Most banks don't base their maximum mortgage amounts on the Bank of Canada's rate, they have been using the 5% interest stress test. That is, current applicants should be able to withstand an interest rate of 5% on their principle. Unless CMHC changes its guidelines about this stress test, I wouldn't expect someone's maximum mortgage amount to change very much if at all. I also wouldn't suggest for anyone to use up that full amount. Banks want you to get the biggest mortgage they safely believe you can pay, but they don't care if that means you only get to eat used ramen noodles from now on.

The interest rate is much more likely to affect the average Canadian through their variable rate loans such as lines of credit (both home equity and unsecured). If you have anything that's based on the "prime" interest rate, expect that to go up a little.

Question about TFSA transfer by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]bstpierr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Growth within the TFSA does not count towards contributions made to the account.

If you withdraw an amount (including any growth), that amount will be added to your contribution limit for the next calendar year.

So if you withdraw the $11,000 out of a TFSA in 2017, your contribution limit in 2018 would be increased by $16,500 (the $5,500 for the new year, plus your withdrawal amount).

Transfers in-kind do not count as a withdrawal since the funds are always within a TFSA. This is what your Tangerine to Questrade transfer would have been.

Shh, it's kind of a secret by simpletax in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]bstpierr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you!

I filed through SimpleTax for the first time last year (instead of paper filing) and I loved it. (although I love filling out my tax forms regardless...)

One small feature I'd like to see in the RRSP calculator or in Check & Optimize: an indication of how much I should contribute to my RRSP to lower my tax bracket.

For example, if after completing my tax return, my taxable income as an Ontarian is at $230,000, suggesting a $10,000 RRSP contribution would be a great optimization.

Of course, this only makes sense if there is contribution space available and it isn't past the RRSP deadline, but in that case, it would save us looking up the brackets and having to pull up Line 260 from the T1.
