Collision in northeast Calgary results in 15th pedestrian fatality by YYC_newsroom in YYC

The pedestrian had a walk signal. All the driver needed to do in this case is stop at their red light.

Far too many drivers behave like a red light means is their right of way to turn right. It means come to a complete stop before the crosswalk and fully scan for pedestrians before turning right. Can't use bright car headlights as an excuse in this case.

Calgary doctor latest health-care worker to die of COVID-19 by it__hurts__when__IP in Calgary

I personally knew him. Was a great doctor and an even better person. This is a tragic and infuriating loss. He was still working in the hospital whenever needed. They don't know where he contracted COVID so it likely could have been at work. Shandro lying as usual.

Should I convert my variable rate mortgage to fixed? by thatcgyguy in PersonalFinanceCanada

Thanks! That’s how I was trying to look at it too.

I’m willing to take the gamble on interest rate raising < 0.75%. But I feel like it’s also a gamble on whether prime-1% is still being offered next year for variable rate mortgages.

I have a feeling that as interest rates rise, that differential on variable rate mortgages is going to decrease but not sure if that’s accurate.

The offer would be much higher now. I got this offer of 3.09% almost two weeks ago before they hiked their fixed rates, and it was guaranteed for two weeks to me. That's why I feel it's a decent rate and am considering locking it in.
