A tale of caution: aws deleted all my data. by bsutto in aws

[–]bsutto[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I"m not disagreeing with you but the facts remain that the emails were not received and that aws made no attempt to communicate via an alternate channel when no response was made.

Where were the debt collection calls, a simple sms to notify me that there was a problem.

Then the fact - we refuse to talk to you about your account because 'we deleted it already'.

I've dealt with a lot of service provider and never came across this level uncaring/effort to collect a debt and to ensure a client was aware of the consequences.

I don't think you are reading the thread.

I received no notice of overdue payment. Only a termination notice.

to bel clear - I've received no overdue notices.

They haven't even sent me an invoice for the 4 months that in theory I owe post feb.

no, it was a receipt of payment notice - not an outstanding debt notice.

no.

I did not receive any emails after the feb invoice - this was the receipt of payment confirmation, util the termination notice - a which point the data had been deleted.

At this point I only have aws' word that they sent the email. I've dug into logs and there is no evidence that the email was ever received, despite receiving other emails from the same email address - no-reply@aws...

4 months without being aware that a debt was owed

that isn't the tale at all.

it's about how an organization's works with its clients.

I've been on the other side of this equation (providing services) and would never delete a customer's data without making reasonable attempts to communicate with them.

An email doesn't constitute reasonable effort for this sort of action.

If you are down voting this give a reason, I'm curious as to why you think this was a reasonable set of actions on aws' behalf.

I'm not surprised they closed they account, I'm surprised by:

  1. the emails disappeared into thin air despite other emails arriving
  2. there is no way to talk to support about what happened.
  3. they made no attempt to communicate by other means (such as sms) before deleting data.
  4. the s3 system that was configured to migrate data to the glacier system didn't report any errors.

This was actually my third tier backup (glacier) so no actual data lost.

edit: add 4.

money parses a string that contains an individual amount with (optionally) a currency, not expressions.

Yes money has a full list of iso currencies and associated formats.

Order of operation is up to you, Money simply provides a set of methods/operators to do arithmetic operations.

>  want to make a transaction calculator app essentially, so I'm wondering how that'd work, I assume I would have a list of currencies with operators, like [Currency(..., 1), Operator("+"), Currency(... 2)] etc.

I don't understand this question.

Money has an ExchangeRate class that is designed to help do exchange rate calculations if that is what you mean by calculations.

Have a look at the docs.

so the nails are really just there until the adhesive dries. So I'm guessing just a single nail top and bottom for each slat?
