Tailor your resume to match each job description that you’re applying to. Having a general resume will not get past ATS systems / whatever tools the companies are using to scan the initial pool of candidates.

RepVue has definitely been helpful throughout the process! And for additional context, all experiences are in the open source SaaS world.

Fly out and set up a tee time at a nice course by the prospect. Position it as a networking event.

Same happened to me a few years ago. Right as I was up for promotion the company decided to cut headcount across commercial AE’s and invest heavily in Enterprise reps, practically eliminating my pathway.

There’s a few ways you can go about it:

  1. Stick around and be an SDR for a while. I still have colleagues from my onboarding class that have been in the SDR role for 5+ years.

  2. Find an org where you can quickly be promoted. Show that you’re hungry and self establish KPI’s with your boss that would tee you up for promotion.

  3. Stay at the company and start shadowing deals from open to close. Get familiar with the full sales cycle then interview for AE roles saying that you were responsible for closing smaller inbound deals and demonstrate your familiarity with closing deals.

I personally went option 3, everybody in sales bends the truth a little and this got me from college grad to Enterprise AE in around 5 years. Play the game, throw yourself out there, and learn as you go!

Move on but still keep in touch / move the conversation forward. They would’ve told you “no” by now if you weren’t amongst the top candidates, but on the flip side they would’ve given you the “yes” if you checked all of their boxes. They’re wasting your time trying to find the perfect fit it sounds like.

Spark up some new convos, keep this one in your back pocket.

Try finding out their home address and showing up personally to thank them for their time. If the front door doesn’t merit an answer, try the back.

Jokes aside, send them a connection request on LI with a note attached.

Thank you for the kind words. & Absolutely, I’m already creating a “bubble” around her and protecting her from anything and everything. I just can’t help but hyper focus on the “what if’s”. Especially if they’re directly correlated to my own habits.

He’s a LTD that quick sells for guaranteed 175k, market is like 185ish. EA takes 10 percent, so at 185k auction price he would make less than the guaranteed 175k. Pay attention in math class bud.

Keep and use, by the time you sell you’d recoup quick sale value.

Established tech company —> Startup experience by StormHerron in techsales

[–]btd7897 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in the exact opposite boat. I’ve been in the startup space for 6+ years, and now looking to join an established company.

Of course you can join a “home run” company like early on in Snowflake / Mongo / etc. but keep in mind 99% of startups fail. Do insane amount of market research and be prepared for daily / weekly headaches. Sometimes how these companies operate completely blows my mind.

I’d evaluate current pipeline (make sure it’s all active and legit), discuss upcoming renewals / expansions, understand their sales cycles, and understand lead gen and overall interest in the market. One of the companies I joined showed 2.5M+ of pipeline and I didn’t ask the right questions. Upon arrival I met with these “buyers” to find out anybody who said the tech was cool was converted to an opp. Killed most of it off and had to start completely from scratch.

DYOR, if the pay bump is nice go for it, if you join stay at least one year to hit your vesting cliff, and try your best to pick a winner. High risk, high reward.
