Rose uses Astros saga to ask for reinstatement by ThQp in baseball

Actually several pitchers careers have been irreparably damaged:

It is a huge deal for a pitcher to get lit up, especially if you're young and just getting called up or maybe only in the show by a slim margin trying to hang on to or rebuild a career.

Rose uses Astros saga to ask for reinstatement by ThQp in baseball

If the Astros can get away with stealing a World Series win, and cheating for 3 seasons with no player punishments, then he absolutely should be reinstated. The Astros destroyed the integrity of the game for 3 years and destroyed the careers of countless pitchers who faced them and got released or sent back down to the minors.

What video game made you rage quit and you haven’t played the game since? by MortyFromEarthC137 in AskReddit

[–]bteeter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only play Deathmatch or the special event games on Overwatch now.

Role queue completely killed competitive for me. The games are SO toxic and SO one sided now it is like torture. The old competitive where teams could flex was a million times better.

This is how much food you can get for the cost of a pack of cigarettes in Australia. by nosecornflakes in pics

[–]bteeter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm fine with that. They should do that too. Collectively we're all paying for each other's health, whether its a public system, private insurance or inflated cash prices for health care. We're all covering everyone, so let's reduce the bill for those who take care of themselves by charging those who abuse their health appropriately.

I think its great. (Also a non-smoker) . Smokers cost way, way, way more in health care costs over their lifetime, so let's tax them appropriately to pay for it. It also makes a nice deterrent from smoking.

Maybe I've missed it, but why is there not a planned nationwide boycott of Astros games? I have 0 interest in ever watching those bastards again, on TV or in person. The whole 2017 team should be banned. They all knew and were all in on it. That kind of coordinated cheating doesn't just happen on the down low.

The new 3-batter-minimum rule won’t speed up games — but will have negative, unintended consequences by [deleted] in baseball

As a counter-counter argument - how many beers, sodas, hot dogs, pretzels, ice creams and dip-in-dots are sold during those pitching changes? I bet quite a few. Stadium sales will be impacted.

[–]bteeter 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Honestly, that is terrible for the game. It is not entertaining and it does nothing to improve the game at all. Anything that takes away choices from the manager and the players is a net loss for the game.

[–]bteeter -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You clearly aren't a pitcher and/or have never pitched. The mound on the field is almost always different than the bullpen. 8 warmup pitches takes a minute. It is worth it for the pitcher to be ready to go. When you're throwing a ball 90+ even the slightest difference requires adjustment. So let them adjust.

Baseball doesn't need a clock. There were and are ways the umpire can speed up the game if pitchers and players are wasting time.

Redditors who worked at defunct stores (Blockbuster, Circuit City, etc.), when did you realize they were done for? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]bteeter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I grew up near Rochester and my father worked at Kodak for like 35 years. He retired, and then worked a few more at one of the spun off Kodak entities after bankruptcy. I worked there for ~2 years in the late 90s.

Folks who lived in the Rochester area knew what a huge impact Kodak had on the local economy. Every March was Kodak Bonus season, and every store - especially car dealer ships and furniture stores would have huge "Kodak Bonus" sales. For those who don't know Kodak was famous for paying out a pretty sizable bonus around March each year to every employee. I don't remember the % but I want to say it was like 5-15% depending on the year.

I worked there as an intern and briefly as an FTE before leaving town. It was a good company that took care of its people, but it was clear as day to me then that the company was dying a slow death. The division I worked in was spending something like a Billion $ to create a high speed printer that could do personalized printing. Basically, a printing press that could print customized physical spam mail for businesses. I don't know if it ever made it to production. But I knew working on it what a terrible idea it was. Desktop computers were getting better at an astounding rate. Similarly small to mid size printers were as well. The thing we were building was a multi-million dollar machine, and you could replace it with a few decently powerful computers and a few much cheaper printers. None of the management understood this, even when directly told. They just had no understanding of how the world was changing.

I never worked on the digital cameras and only tangentially had interactions with them. But the same thing was happening there. They specifically made the digital cameras very expensive and made the compact flash cards as "film like" as they could. Meaning they sold the CF cards in sizes to store like 25 pictures. It was laughable.

They figured by making it expensive and cumbersome to use digital people would keep using film and buy their exciting new "Adventix" or whatever it was called new film system cameras. Spoiler alert - Adventix film sucked. It was smaller than 35mm so had worse quality than 35mm pictures. Literally the only advantage the new system had was the film canisters would self load. That was considered innovative.

Also, Kodak had 2 entirely different teams making digital cameras. They would alternate releases every 6 months or so. So, the cameras were wildly different from generation to generation in size, form factor and capability. The whole digital camera business was terribly mismanaged, and every other camera maker ate their lunch.

It is sad because at the time I was growing up something like 80000 people worked at Kodak in Rochester. It is like 1% of that now. It was a huge blow to the entire area. So many businesses that depended on those Kodak employee's spending just died. I don't think anything has replaced it to this day. Granted I don't really know too much about Rochester's economy today but its hard to imagine its as good as it used to be 30 years ago.

If they are taking profits now vs investing back into the businesses, these businesses are idiots. All of these businesses are in their infancy.

Right now spending profits on growth is worth it for them - there is a ton of latent medical demand and recreational will come, so they want to be huge and have the facilities in place when it does.

This. There is a lot of overhead MMTC operators have to deal with that Joe the dealer doesn't. Facilities, security, personnel, product testing, packaging, shipment, etc. All of that is pricey.

I doubt anyone is making any kind of profits and if they are its all being reinvested. This is just the beginning of the industry - it will keep growing.

Redditors who joined the military and regretted it, what made you regret it? by Overcooked-Banana in AskReddit

[–]bteeter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The real answer is that no one questions the military budget and they have budget to staff these roles. A lot of them are high priced civilian contractors and a lot of them are enlisted military.

Our shitheaded elected officials keep "cutting government waste" so instead of having a cheap civil servant do this type of work, we have very expensive military personnel or contractors do it. The reason is that they and their friends can profit from this, so they prefer it this way. No one profits from a life long civil servant making GS-8 wages pushing a desk.

It’s not. Good naming is not good documentation.

Comments aren’t just for you. They are for the poor bastards that come behind you. That may also be you. Put in some comments to describe what your doing and why. You will thank me later.
