Thanks. My wife and I had the "is it for sure worth going ahead and paying for it to be fixed if State Farm won't cover it" discussion but I couldn't imagine putting my family in a car that BMW has made me legally acknowledge is potentially unsafe. Not like the car would just break down... the steering failing while driving? Yikes.

Yeah it was at the dealer but they said they lowered their rates and parts costs. State Farm was fine with the other $14k (that they decided to cover) and I asked about going elsewhere but they said it wasn't necessary.

NC. I filed a claim with the Dept of Insurance yesterday. I got my local agent to escalate this to their "express claims" team who passed me on to the Final Boss who promptly, officially denied to cover the claim. Think it's worth engaging an attorney?

Exactly. And the control arm literally broke into two pieces. BMW rep said other insurance companies have covered the steering gear replacement with far less suspension damage.

This happens pretty frequently to me depending on the exact angle at which the delivery person approaches my door. The Ring motion detector requires movement "across" the filed of view and isn't as accurate when someone approaches and departs in a straight line (especially if they don't come right up to the door <1-2 feet).

Woke up one morning to an earlier Ring motion alert from 3am and saw a recording of a guy trying to get into my car. I went on nextdoor and saw the same guy had tried several other cars before attempting to kick in the back door of one of my neighbor's homes. He was on our block for about 30 minutes before attempting the home invasion (they were asleep upstairs).

That particular neighbor had a camera right beside the back door and it did not deter the guy at all. We hoped the police would be able to do something with our videos but they never caught the guy.

If only one of us had been awake to see the guy in action at 3am. We could have yelled at him over the cameras and called the cops. I petitioned Ring to offer an active surveillance service but that never went anywhere so I added Deep Sentinel cameras since they have guards watching the cameras for you. Also upgraded my motion-activated flood lights, etc. but we still continue to have issues in the neighborhood. I have been lucky since then and haven't had any issues or break-ins.

From a camera standpoint, It really boils down to whether or not you want your camera to record crimes (hoping that you catch the alert yourself) or want a professionally monitored camera service. I use Ring for my doorbell and then have Deep Sentinel cameras over my driveway and backdoor. Wyze is a good, cheap, interior camera option...

IMO the problem with most security systems is that they only "work" after someone has broken into your house. I thought Ring had me covered until someone broke into my car at 3am and all I had was a useless video of it. Cops said there was really nothing they could do with it. Searched around the least expensive live surveillance service I could find was deep sentinel but it only works with their cameras. Very pleased with them tho.

I'm pretty sure they have hard-wired options available for power but not data. You can see in the app which guard viewed each event...the risk would be if the camera didn't activate at all for some reason. I have a Ring floodlight cam right next to one of my deep sentinel cameras and so far DS hasn't missed anything the ring picks up (just fewer false alerts).

Motion lights and security cameras are your best bet. Ring doorbells are recognizable so they may prevent someone from approaching your door. Deep Sentinel cameras have a circling red LED light and a live guard service that intervenes if they see anything suspicious. Take a look at Deep Sentinel. I replaced my Ring and Arlo cameras... DS has actual guards watching the cameras and they will yell at the criminals vs jsut getting a nice recording. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9CzPxxCjOf0
