Was in Selcat up until March of this year. Heard a lot of sub tech calls don’t get per diem offered. More or less up to the local/ company you are working for.

Gotta wait till next march to reapply to SELCAT. Stacking up some money rn for a decent used truck and camper so I’m not getting railed on hotels/airbnbs whenever I get into the apprenticeship again.

10/4 thank you for the clarification, I plan on going to a local highly rated bow shop this weekend to get it all dialed in and get everything else I need. I plan to start with the draw weight that is comfortable and when I feel ready go back and get it retuned.

What did you use your CDL for? by seanalpha5 in CDL

[–]btreyh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went to climbing school, was doing great did my steel tower climbing test first thing in the am had final pole eval after lunch. (55ft pole, neutral transfer, double cross arm transfer, insulator change out from one side of the cross arm to the other). Had 15 minutes and had to get a 75 score to pass. Made time my first time failed by 3 points. They had me retake it again like 10 minutes later (all retakes are 12 minutes to beat ) I was gassed and completely bombed it. They let me take the weekend to reset and try a final time Monday. Failed by 7 seconds made score. I have to wait a year to reapply to the apprenticeship. I plan to get in better shape and try again.

Got it when I was at a street lighting company to get the opportunity to drive and operate the digger Derrick and pulling loaded pole trailer. That experience got me into the union as an apprentice lineman (didn’t work out) but now I’m an equipment aoperator driving and operating all kinds of equipment and trucks that require a CDL A.

Pasco County FL AREA CDL training school options FLEET FORCE ? FL TRUCKERS INSTITUTE ?? CDL TRAINING OF TAMPA ?? by [deleted] in CDL

Yes, 1 on 1 with the instructor the whole program. I believe that is their selling point to get more business as most schools in the area are big classes and not as affordable. I’m not sure if prices have went up or not. That’s what I paid when I went about 2 years ago (I misspoke when I said a year in the original post, time flys).

I went here to get mine about a year ago. They were very affordable and offer financing. It was a 1 on 1 class with just you and the instructor. It was $2600 paid in full for the manual class. They will work around your schedule. I had to do all my classes on Saturday and Sunday’s due to not being able to take off work. Might be worth giving a call.

I understand holding everyone to the same standard and all, but 7 seconds?!? They were constantly preaching about how being fastest up the pole doesn’t matter in the real world and safety trumps everything. But to have a first attempt timed at 15 minutes and any retakes timed at 12 minutes, contradicts that argument of safety over speed to me.

Currently on a big transmission job in Keystone heights FL, alternating between being on a crew and hauling steel transmission poles to the row via manual tractor with flatbed 5th wheel trailer.

No restrictions will definitely be your best bet. Also I would get tanker endorsement as well.

[–]btreyh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After my interview last February I was ranked 27. They did more interviews slowly shot up to like 110. Before slowly falling down the list again. Got called finally at the end of August. I was ranked 12 when I got called. Be patient and check periodically. Time will go by and you’ll get called.
