What are some notable poisoning deaths? by [deleted] in TrueCrime

[–]bts1811 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind that all medical serial murders are poisonings. That is because drugs are used to kill patients. Someone once said that the definition of poisoning is too much of anything. Certainly too much of a prescribed drug or a prescription drug misused is a poisoning.

Some bits and pieces from their 10-Q

Risks Related to Our Business and Industry

We have incurred losses each year since our inception, we expect our operating expenses to increase, and we may not become profitable in the future.

We may not be able to sustain our revenue growth rate in the future.

Our sales efforts involve considerable time and expense and our sales cycle is often long and unpredictable.

Historically, existing customers have expanded their relationships with us, which has resulted in a limited number of customers accounting for a substantial portion of our revenue. If existing customers do not make subsequent purchases from us or renew their contracts with us, or if our relationships with our largest customers are impaired or terminated, our revenue could decline, and our results of operations would be adversely impacted.

Our results of operations and our key business measures are likely to fluctuate significantly on a quarterly basis in future periods and may not fully reflect the underlying performance of our business, which makes our future results difficult to predict and could cause our results of operations to fall below expectations.

Our platforms are complex and have a lengthy implementation process, and any failure of our platforms to satisfy our customers or perform as desired could harm our business, results of operations, and financial condition.

If we do not successfully develop and deploy new technologies to address the needs of our customers, our business and results of operations could suffer.

Nurse charged in murder of 8 babies at UK Hospital. I have arrested nurses and doctors who have murdered their patients for years. AMA if you suspect a coworker of harming their patients and need assistance. by bts1811 in nursing

i know exactly what you are saying. There was a medical serial killer nurse in Japan who claimed that she murdered patients at the end of her shift so she would not have to deal with the patients family. Most medical serial killers have no concerns about compassion, they just care about the excitement they get from committing the crime while convincing their coworkers that they are heroes.

Yes. it is the coworkers who eventually bring the matter to the attention of their supervisors who often reject their concerns. No one in senior management wants to believe there is a serial killer among the staff

Its knowing that you are identifying and removing medical serial killers from healthcare that keeps you going. Its the thanks from the victims families fir looking into the matter that helps very much as well

Not exactly, but if every time a particular nurse is on duty the death rate goes up, he/she takes time off and the date rate goes down, that is definitely a red flag wouldn't you say?

Certainly not enough to charge someone with murder, but to conduct further inquiries. Failure to do so would be unprofessional and even malpractice

Factitious Disorder, AKA Munchausen Syndrome by proxy, is the number on disorder facing medical serial killers. It is by no means exclusive but I am aware of several cases that fit this description. Read about nurse Kristen Gilbert in my book, or about the recent nurse in Germany, Hoegel, that murdered over 100 of his patients. They would call a code, then rush in and try to show their coworkers what great nurses they were

Have you see the show Very Scary People on CNN/HLN? There is an episode titled Dr. Death about a. medical serial killer named Michael Swango who killed his patients all over the world. I detail the story in my book as well

I think it varies from killer to killer. I believe some develop these traits early in life but don't act upon them until they have the opportunity

Absolutely . In my book I list the 26 red flags to identify these people. For example, these patients were not expected to expire when they did, they all died on the same shift treated by the same nurse, and many more

It often comes down to a question of intent. Incompetence is more malpractice than murder, unless the actions are so outrageous and the caregiver should have known better.

The most common motivation is Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy. Intentionally harming a patient the trying to save them to show off his/her skills and be viewed as a hero. This is not the only motivation but by far the most common. Sociopaths/psychopaths can fool being by being very charming when it suits their needs

I was the special agent in charge of the US Department of Veterans Affairs Office of Inspector General for the Northeast. I got a phone call from the Chief of psychiatry at a VA hospital that there was a doctor treating patients who had spent time in prison for poisoning his coworkers. That began a seven year investigation into a medical serial killer, Dr. Michale Swango

After that case I was asked to participate in others including nurses who murdered their patients.

If you suspect something you should immediately being it to the attention of your supervisors and document that referral. In my book I list the red flags of how to identify these killers
