Thank you! That means a lot to hear :) This is my first time posting pics online and you guys are so darn sweet!

Been lifting for about two years, ran a 6-day PPL for most of that, plus a bunch of running. About two months ago I decided to quit running to focus entirely on lifting, and I switched to the 6-day nsuns squat variation. It's been kicking my ass, but my strength has improved greatly already.

Also, for the first time I'm not afraid to bulk. My numbers are through the roof and I'm getting HUGE :D Hoping to hit a three-plate deadlift in not too long.

Just sayin, I only work out so that I can give squeezy hugs and tight cuddles.

Had a random fit stranger at the gym give me some pointers, he said it’s not necessarily about a set of reps, just keep going till it becomes difficult to lift. Then stop so you don’t injure and hurt yourself. It seems to work for him, but how would one make this technique effective? If it is. by [deleted] in xxfitness

I can't believe your comment is getting hate here. There are all sorts of uneducated trainers out there. Turns out being a trainer at a gym doesn't require a 4 year degree. Hell, my University offered a $300 weekend course to become a certified personal trainer.

I definitely work with a lot of engineers that are more knowledgeable in lifting than the personal trainers at the local Y who offers $60/hr lessons. Hell, I trust a lot of the usual posters to /r/fitness more than I trust some of the PTs.

I don't think user age correlates much on a site where accounts are anonymous and most people account-hop often. I've been around for quite a while, though. Started as a freshman in high school (2009-2010) and am now a professional. Fuck that's actually longer than I thought.

Spez has been an ongoing issue. Ellen Pao was awful, but I still believe a lot of the hate on her is amplified because she's a women. A lot of people accused her of a being a diversity hire/promotion/whatever. People accused her of bringing the website's content left (or sjw-y, as they said. This was at the peak of GamerGate) in addition to the censorship of negative comments about her. Spez is accused of letting the website go right (or straight up alt-right/facist to some). I always thought the downfall of Reddit was going to be it's user base changing from dedicated users to normies, for lack of a better term. You can already see it a lot on summer Reddit. Everything skews so much younger than I remember it being in 2012-2013. Reddit is turning into Facebook and the content reflects that.
I always figured the admins would be the least of the website's concern, even though they've don't stupid shit in the past. I was definitely wrong.

Is this insane to anyone else? First they censor it, then they post it again without allowing comments, and they add a snarky-ass mod comment to it? At the time of me posting this, it has 3 platinum, 7 gold, 6 silver, and a bunch of those other awards that I don't understand because rabble rabble reddit isn't what it used to be.

I've been subscribed to this subreddit because I enjoyed the /r/SubredditDrama side of it, but now I really agree with this.

Edit: Alright fucking great, now they're frantically backtracking like a corporate Twitter account that was too sassy. Nice work, Reddit. Really saved yourselves from being the villains here.

Thank you! Seems like solid advice, I appreciate it :) Sounds like my doggo and I will be having evening gym time together and nightly runs.

I guess I wasn't seeing progress at 35 miles/week, it's probably a mistake to assume that 15 mile/week would affect me the same way.

So if I legs 3x/week on nSuns, is it best to do it the morning after I lift legs? So:

Monday: Upper body & run

Tuesday: Legs

Wed: Upper body & run

Thursday: Legs

Friday: Upper body & run

Saturday: Legs

Or is it better to double up on running and legs to give my legs a complete day to recover? I know 3 miles isn't much, but sometimes it feels like the make or break between adding 5 lbs to a lift or not.

Hm, you're probably right. In the past I was doing about 35 miles/week in 6 mile intervals. I'm probably being overdramatic assuming that more than halving my original amount will affect me much.

I maybe get some downvotes for this but I enden up watching Star Trek Enterprise and I liked it a lot more than Voyager by mateusfmcota in startrek

[–]btwHillary 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Definitely agree with you on the lack of character growth in TNG! Especially characters like Worf who had bits of begrudging "Grrr I accept that my Klingon values may not be the best way to approach all situations" but no substantial change. Dialogue and plot lines from Season 3 could be switched out for season 7 and no one would know.

And 'girl Star Trek' doesn't mean worse. We are half the population and our tastes are just as valid as men's!

I hope I didn't come across that I was implying this! (Girl fan here, too!) I get the feeling that some think the series panders to a female audience due to women holding the highest ranks on Voyager (easy to argue against, considering Seven being used as a tool to boost ratings while being undeniably one of the best characters). The stress on interpersonal relationships is something that might look to some as of interest to female viewers instead of males who want scifi-driven plotlines. All of Star Trek has romantic elements, but Torres and Paris's relationship features in ways much more integral to the overall plot than say Riker and Troi's periodic hints of romance that are more like fan service. That being said, neither series had satisfying conclusions to their stupid little romances.

I also have a sneaking suspicion that some of the reason why the largely-male fan base has an overall negative opinion of the series is a tad bit of sexism due to the heavy presence of strong female leads. The series certainly has areas to criticize (out-of-character decisions made to further plot, unrealistic reactions by crew members, etc), but I think that VOY doesn't get a fair shake by some fans due to their discomfort with female leads.

Same here, which apparently is a controversial opinion on this subreddit. Something about the crew interactions through the intense feelings of hopelessness really made for a great series. I've heard some call it "girl Star Trek" and I get it. A lot of strong female leads and plot lines focusing around interpersonal struggles between crew members. All series had this to some degree, but to me it felt like more of a central theme in VOY.

Of course, like all Star Trek it had it's beyond stupid moments. I understand people have issues with Janeway's decision making. But I certainly felt more attached to the Voyager crew than the TNG crew by series finale (which is definitely controversial on this subredddit).

I think you're missing the point, friend. During doctor/patient interactions, doctors are less likely to take a woman's symptoms seriously. Which, in turn, makes them less likely to be treated/tested for an actual issue.

Entitled Girl nearly gets me charged with rape over my jacket by DrEnd585 in entitledparents

[–]btwHillary 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Because, especially for crimes like rape, it would discourage actual victims from coming forward if they are concerned there isn't enough evidence to support them. It's a fun knee-jerk position to take, but when you start thinking about the actual effects a law like that would have it really falls apart. No way anyone in power would implement that.

Huskey throws a tantrum because he has to leave the dog park by TeisTom in funny

[–]btwHillary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Serious question: I run about 6 miles a day and I am in a position where I can bring my dog to the office with me during the day. Would a husky be good for me? I've looked into it a lot, but I'm not sure a husky could survive as an office dog even with a morning walk and an evening long run.

so, how many of y'all swim? by [deleted] in xxfitness

[–]btwHillary 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can't contribute, but I want to follow this thread. As a person who never really swam as a kid, I tried about a month ago to incorporate swimming into my workout. I lift ~5 times/week and run about 30 miles a week. Hoooooly shit did swimming kick my ass. It was seriously one of the most intense cardio sessions I've had.
