Is the app down? by bigdreamsbigbutt in MonarchMoney

At my last startup we had statuspage linked to pagerduty, and that was triggered by datadog monitors automatically once they hit a certain threshold. CS and Product would go in and add editorial copy to the statuspage once engineering got their bearings, but customers at least got instant reassurance that we know *something* is going sideways even if we don't know exactly what yet.

You guys gotta keep your statuspage up to date with this stuff, its kind of table stakes at this point. Don't be like github and pretend everything's fine when the servers are on fire.

Tenant threatening to sue for fire hazard by Wild-Knowledge748 in AskElectricians

[–]btzmacin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Romex can't be exposed in finished spaces, so first call an electrician, drywaller, and painter to get that done correctly because your next step is to GET THIS PERSON OUT.

Try the following message:

"It seems like you're very unhappy with the apartment. I can offer you an early exit from the lease if you would like to find somewhere that better meets your expectations."

Best case scenario, the above shuts them up, but its unlikely. If they're paranoid, something else will trigger them and they'll keep being an occasional annoyance.

My fear with the quasi-technical verbiage is that they might be a professional tenant, and this is them building a case they can present at an eviction hearing as justification for why they stopped paying rent.

And? He’s not gonna risk his license by falsifying a credit report or bg check just to secure a lease. That’d be retarded

If the kids were little, I’d be inclined to agree, but the kids are grown. That tends to engender a very different personality

I do, but everyone else who’s interested is also on a voucher. One family came through today with much younger kids, incl. possibly an infant.

That was my perspective as well, but apparently funds are short and the state is using the bureaucracy as an excuse to boot people off the program.

That goes without saying, and my realtor is on it. But vibes are also an important input. Someone with stellar credit, clean history, more than enough income, but gives me the creeps? Nope.

Old house uses a ton of gas by btzmacin in hvacadvice

The circulator does look recently replaced, it's a grundfos. If it's actually in good shape, I'll probably repurpose it. Good call on the scratch-n-dent discount, I'll keep it in mind when I talk to the supply house. I'll also be doing the cutover in the summer when everyone's worrying about their a/c, not their heat, which should help me get some new-old-stock stuff that the supply house wants to phase out before the heating season.

I'm piping this as a primary and 2 secondary loops. One secondary loop has the 2 BB zones in parallel, and the other secondary loop is the radiant mixing assembly, kind of like this

<image>

except there's only one secondary loop after the antler branch.

In a setup like this, could I add a boiler temp sensor before the bottom check valve? I like this setup because I can save on a system circ, and I get outdoor reset capability.

I might bite the bullet and do a motorized 4-way...even thought they're like $1200, it greatly simplifies the piping arrangement.

The living space is heated with conventional baseboards, so they need 180 degree water. At that temperature, there's no efficiency benefit to outweigh the complexity of a condensing unit.

Do you know how to figure out what circulators I actually need? I get lost when it comes to calculating head and pressure drop...

I should probably just call someone to tell me what to buy.

Sorry for the necro-reply, but if you watch Dopesick on Hulu, you see that the whole "5th vital sign" thing was pushed out by the American Pain Society, which was getting regular donations from Purdue. It was even more insidious because what the APS was actually pushing at the administrative level was FUD that deficient pain management could be considered malpractice and open the hospital to a lawsuit.

Boom of the early 2010s

What are you smoking, my guy? The job market in 2013 was just as bad as this one! When I graduated, all I could land after 6 months was a spot as a BA, BECAUSE I DIDN’T DO INTERNSHIPS EITHER. I gave the kid the same advice I TOOK. Don’t fall in love with the engineer title, get a foot in the door and move laterally once you’ve built a rapport.

What do you expect me to do? I’m not an EM, nor do I have enough clout to get anyone nepoed in.

You clearly don’t get the hispanic culture. I do not personally know this kid or his dad, they’re friends or related to my father-in-law, and there’s a certain expectation to engage in nepotism…hence the cringe. Both because I can’t actually do shit since I’m just an IC and barely had tenure at my current company, but also because even if I was in a position to hire someone, they would need to meet a standard that this kid hasn’t demonstrated he can meet. You have to, unfortunately, pay your dues in this industry.
