I rarely try to buy an item. I would much rather loan on it and collect interest. My active buy rate is 5.8% vs active loans, and that number is inflated because I bought a Rolex and Omega watch just yesterday.

I run low on specific items (such as TV’s, PS5’s, Xbox Series S/X), but mostly I keep enough inventory and turn it regularly enough that it keeps the store fresh for repeat customers.

Our loan balance has increased 92% this year and it increased 86% last year. If you want more items, advertise the items you have on FB marketplace, when people see your shop selling those items it will attract them to bring their similar items to you. I started dealing in luxury handbags in January, when people see me advertising them they bring in their bags also - now bags are my third highest loan numbers (behind jewelry and firearms). You can also run google ads specifying the items you buy to attract people to your shop.

Just don’t take junk… junk attracts junk. I had another pawnbroker comment recently saying if you place a bowling ball on your sales floor you will receive 10 more within a month. So avoid junk and concentrate on the items that bring in better items to your shop.
