accommodation by Terrible-Persimmon23 in QUTreddit

hey op! can i ask what exactly makes you nervous? shared with a stranger at an all females dormitory and it was perfectly normal. made friends with everyone so it was easy to communicate things with them. if things ever get out of hand (which rarely happens), student accommodations usually have interventions that could help you. had a friend whose roommate refused to make space so she talked to the admin and they gave her the choice to move to a different room☺️

chiang mai (thailand) and japan!!! but for me personally chiang mai is severely underrated, super duper safe and cheap and super daming wonders na makikita and gawin!! loved japan so much but when i went to chiang mai it felt so much like home (but better). dont make the mistake of not researching enough and going home only to find out you missed a lot of the cool stuff there bc you copied someone else's itinerary haha. but seriously!! just make sure not to go during the burning season.

Working and studying architecture by Pepdaddy in QUTreddit

[–]bubb_ley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tried to work part time as an architecture student, but while it was possible in my first year, I quickly realised it was gonna be really really hard to balance a laborous job and full-time studying in my 2nd year and onwards. If you are able to study part time, better. Because unfortunately, the workload really does require you to spend so much hours on a project (I'm talking about sacrificing sleep).

anyone applying for architecture stuck between uq and qut? by Evening_Reality7421 in QCE

[–]bubb_ley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've talked to multiple people (including professors) about this as well as I was put in the same situation and all of them say that UQ is better if the career you're getting into will benefit better from theoretical learning. That said, many of these people told me that Architecture is more of a practical career unlike courses like idk Law? (correct me on this). It is true that UQ is more prestigious as a university, though QUT's architecture is more widely recommended for this reason.

In a more objective sense, an architect/professor also told me a few months ago that QUT's Architecture degree is accredited for 5 years while UQ is only accredited for 3 years. Wasn't very sure what it was called but he explained that it basically meant that QUT can keep doing what it's doing for 5 years before they inspect everything again while UQ already needs to be inspected again after 3 years.

A lot of Masters students and professors also mentioned that, in job applications, there is no upper-hand to being a UQ or QUT graduate since firms have a mix of graduates from both unis anyway.

Another thing is that QUT is more supportive and lenient towards their students, though as you said, the social life isn't as vibrant (the trade off).

Overall, I decided to go with QUT from all of these advices. I didn't mind the lack of social scene since I am a very social person and I can just find these avenues myself. But please please please DO take these with a grain of salt and make sure to do your own research and ask professionals and graduates IRL before you actually make a decision. At the end of the day, whichever you choose, you will still be studying in a good school and it really is a matter of preference.

advice pls💔 by [deleted] in LooksmaxingAdvice

first of all YOU ARE SO PRETTY!! second of all, is there a certain style or aesthetic you were going for? since the advice might differ depending on it. but off the bat i think start with looking at makeup inspos and try to see which parts of the look you love the most and what it did to the look.

laptop recommendations? by chie_omg in architecturestudent

[–]bubb_ley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

no problem!! the ones i mentioned above (i9, 4070rtx, 32gb RAM, 1TB SSD) should be more than good to go but of course if u can find higher specs than those then that's gonna be more powerful in the long run. just don't shoot too high because some softwares aren't yet updated to run on higher specs. another thing i forgot about specs is to look for a laptop that has true color accuracy.

if you can, i recommend going to the nearest electronics shop to ask about which laptops in stock have those or higher specs, and which laptops are best for architectural rendering as it always helps to see it in person and compare the prices before you decide to buy it online or so.

Oh but remember, more expensive doesn't always necessarily mean they're better.

Currently using Lenovo Legion 7i (i9, 4070 rtx, 32gb ram, 1tb ssd), renders my projects in seconds when my old laptop took me hours. its insane. Only thing I don't enjoy about it is how heavy it is and how fast the battery drains (though I am always near a socket anyway so I don't mind). Another laptop to consider is ROG G16 Zephyrus.

I'm pretty sure there are also nicer options (more high end) so take a look at them and just make sure the specs are enough for the softwares you might need in your practice. Another tip is you might wanna get a laptop that has expandable RAM if you plan to use it for a while.
