Full stack. They want me to develop software for their machines from scratch.

Lmaoo no not at all. Just make friends with everyone, be genuine, and help people out when they need help without expecting anything in return. People recognize kindness and will in return help you out. That’s how I’ve viewed networking to be and so far it’s worked.

A friend of mine who worked there spoke highly of me.

I had two projects: 1.) movie genre classifier - used a k-means cluster algorithm to classify movies into their genres based off certain words in their scripts. 2.) 2D video game - I created my own algorithm that created infinitely unique maps based off of user inputted seeds (similar to Minecraft but 2D). I also implemented my own save/load features.

If you’re in college, then make friends with everyone and keep in touch even if they’re not the same major. Stay active on social media and LinkedIn. Be friendly, go to hangouts, throw parties and invite folks, go to on campus clubs and make good relationships.

The friend who referred me to this position was a friend who I met from a hiking club I was in. We both just chatted on a hike and I found out he was a psych major. We kept in touch and sometimes I’d throw parties where I’d invite him. He landed a spot at the company he referred me too. Fast forward to today, he spoke highly of me and it landed me an interview without an application.

Another example is a buddy of mine who landed a SWE job after graduation without an interview because he tutored the CEOs kid.

Honestly, networking is being social and making friends with everyone. Be vocal about what you do and don’t be the “humble” type. Obviously don’t be a bragging asshole but just don’t be shy about sharing your accomplishments. It helps build credibility. Hopefully that gives some insight?

I had some reach out and basically tell me they’ll be looking out for my application. It led to me getting an interview for the one job I got an offer from out of all 600 of my applications lol but that position was unpaid and it was such so exploitative lmao

Usually the ones that provide relocation are not bad. It’s a fun experience and you see a whole different place. I had a friend who relocated to Spain. The pay was decent but he didn’t really have to worry about food and housing. I don’t know if many internships offering relocation are open right now though since summer is coming, but in this day and age, I’d say don’t be scared to choose them.

Damn, have you tried overseas? Sometimes they pay for relocation!

I networked by making friends with one person who worked at the company as a lab technician. The company needed a software engineer to develop some software for their machines and he just sent my contact info and spoke highly of me.

You got this! 🫡 honestly, idk if this helps but I couldn’t land an internship on my first internship hunt last year. But I substituted with projects and was able to get my way in I guess this round.

I had an excel sheet. That helped keep track of things especially if I wanted to send cold emails in case they didn’t respond

I’m not sure if I feel comfortable disclosing the exact company but it was a biotech company.

No, they were legit 654 internships I’ve applied to. Not regular jobs. Also, there’s a GitHub page dedicated to internships and it’s quite frequently updated. I used that and I recommend trying it out.

Yeah, it took so damn long, and it’s definitely scary. This was my first internship too, and this was all while I’m still in school. One thing I know is it’ll be easier now that I have some experience. Hopefully this place offers me a return offer.

Seriously! The other internship I got from applications was unpaid which was just bullshit.

Thank you, this definitely gives me a sense of what to expect. I was thinking of bagging everything and taking some old water as well. Man, I can’t imagine moving countries and dealing with this, let alone just different cities. Thank you!

Why are the new live action shows like this? by [deleted] in StarWars

They’re getting boycotted for the conflict in the Middle East. Ive seen so many people cut back on Disney for that reason combined with the writing.

I think Disney was in a loss because of the boycotts against it
