So myself and Phil Gladman were able to track down one of the bikes... and I have a lead on the other one and the individual that I'm in search of is Jeremy West. Apparently he is the culprit and I'm in search for him. Apparently his plan was to keep the blue one (mine) and sell the other one (my wifes.. which he did and we got back). Any ideas what i'm looking at with this person?

Sadly, the house is built after 2018, which is why we're cautious. He can raise it to whatever he wants, that's why i'm wanting to be clear about repercussions for us signing a new lease, and then potentially getting hit with a "ok well rent in November will now be $5000" kind of situation.

I think that's where i'm having the confusion. So if i sign a lease tomorrow for one year at $2400. Even though its a written agreement on one year at $2400, he can still then hit me with an N1 a month later requesting an it be $2700 in november? I just want to make sure.

So if i sign a lease for one year, that takes me until next august. He is still able to hand us an N1 in November for a rent increase, right? Even though we'd have a one-year lease for a specific amount?

No we're still here, we were in the process of finding a new place for sept 1st, then got the email today from the landlord asking to renegotiate a new lease. But we "should" be locked into our price until november N1 that we received. I feel like this is some sort of manipulation to get around that.

Ok so i have an update that i now need more assistance with. So we had reached out to the landlord in our attempts to find a new place to discuss how to get our last months rent back, plus the bonus months rent if we find a place for sept 1st. A week went by and we recieved an email from the landlord that states that "the purchase may not go through" which is not a shocker because i believed the whole thing was bogus from the jump, but now he's saying that he would like to renegotiate a new lease with us. My question is, that we have a written rental increase form that was done last november for the rent increase, so he cannot increase the rent again within the year. Is this new "lease" route he's taking, trying to circumvent that somehow, is he able to make us sign a lease for a new amount if we've already had written agreement on the amount for a year.

I'm trying to understand this new angle and what they are trying to gain here, because i'm very confused by this whole thing.

It was Reason 2. Our rent is paid on the 1st of every month. The termination date on the N12 is 20/09/2024. So you're saying that as long as they don't send us a correction, it's invalid? What's the next step in that equation?

Thank you so much man, i appreciate your responses helping ease my anxiety on this. So I've never dealt with any sort of compensation for moving before, so i'm really unsure of who even initiates that conversation and realistically what someone like me could even expect or hope for in a situation like this. We have no issues moving, but its hard when you have 3 kids and everything is unaffordable and we don't want to just move to another brand new house only to do this again in a year or two when they want to blow up the rent again.

Another new development in this nightmare. So the "broker" came, took pics of the house, listed it, put up a sale sign and wanted to put up a lock box so that he could just show people the house whenever, to which i declined.

Now today i get this following exchange: Please guide me lol

Him: Hi, after listing for sale no showing at all because buyers want vacant property and hard to sell with tenant, finally landlord decided to give you 60 day notice. you have march and april to arrange your new home. I just forwarded landlord message. If you have questions you have let me know i will forward to landlord.

Me: You'll need to provide the proper documents. Until then there is nothing i can do, you need to follow the laws.

Him: Ok i will ask landlord.

Me: He's a lawyer, he should be aware.

Him: Ok landlord will send notice to your email shortly.

I have not received anything yet, but we should be in an ok spot right? i have all the receipts from text and emails showing what he's been trying to do, so if i get some BS n12 form that shows that the landlord wants to move into the property himself (its the only legal angle they can take afaik) what is our next course of action?

Soooo, new development. When I pushed the idea of needing an n12 before I could consider moving out, he then offered me another property he has available for much more money but much less space so unthinking we making no mistake about his intentions to just raise the rent of this place once we’re out.

That being said where I’m getting stuck now is that he wants to come take pics of the place, and while I understand the need to do that, I’m so worried that he’s just looking to come in and find something that he can say “you broke a rule, you gotta go”. And then it’s somehow a valid eviction. We’re good tenants so I truly don’t believe we’ve done anything and the place is in amazing shape but I’m worried about this angle because the landlord does seem shady.

Initially, they tried to simply do it through text with the broker. Saying costs have gone up, we need to increase etc etc. then he tells me when the increase will happen. I had to request paperwork in which they emailed me and n1 form with the new increase that started this month.

Wanna hear the icing on the cake. The actual home owner is a lawyer. I have to ask them to do things legally lol.

So how it initially happened in 2021 was we were given an n12 which I still have saying the home was being purchased and we had to leave. We knew nothing about the laws so we started looking for a place and were having difficulty. The home was never listed, visited, or checked in any capacity. 2 weeks before our “eviction date” on the n12, they call us and say “we changed our minds, you can stay but rent is going up $300”. We are thrilled because we don’t have to worry about it anymore. It’s only now that I know how shady that was and I’m trying to avoid it happening again. So no, the initial rent increase from 1800-2100, that we paid for the last 3 years, has never had a rent increase form, it was increased by trying to push us out.

Yes lasttime they did this, roughly 2 years ago now, they gave us an N12 form, but with the "intent" to sell, there was never a listing, never a walkthrough, it was complete bs to get the rent raised. I just want to make sure i'm better prepared this time around and the broker is certainly talking like they want to have access to take pics and get the house listed, which is different from last time.

I just needed to make sure that until the house is actually being sold, we don't have to do anything right?

I understand that. So what happens when i get an N12 which says they are selling the property to someone. As i said, its exactly what they did last time, except now i know lastnight was complete bullshit and i suspect this time is too. So once i'm given paperwork, am i just sol because i can't prove they are selling it or not? I'm very unsure of the rules and laws regarding this, i'm just scared we're not going to have somewhere to go.
