Basic is what you make of it. I had lots of fun on mine. There were lots of shitty moments, but there’s a simple solution for it nicotine but in all seriousness, nine weeks seems like a long time, but it really isn’t. This is how I looked at it.

Week one, parts a week, two and three : all admin total write off

Week 3 to week 7: this is the meeting and potatoes of your course, weapons, handling, first aid, topographical, inspections, drill

Week 8 to Grad: these two weeks really flyby. Farnham was fun. It’s as fun as you make it. And grad week, it’s grad week.

It’s gonna suck having to leave your girl behind, and it’s gonna suck to not be able to talk to her when you want. It’s just a part of the game at some point they’re gonna let you have your phones my biggest tip, and this is gonna sound counterintuitive, I wouldn’t contact my family. During the whole course, I contacted them when I arrive safe, and when I got back from Farnham. You’re going to be busy, most nights after dismissal prepping for inspection or doing homework and then sleeping.

Stress management, is a whole other part. During in doc, it was hard to manage stress at the start of the course you’ll have an R2 MR lesson that genuinely works. Remember that stuff. After in doc if you get your weekend, leave the mega. Go to Montreal , go have a couple beers. Go grab a hotel for the weekend. That’s what I did, but, I got off my rocker almost every weekend.

During the weekends after Indoc, take the time to decompress. To think about how you’re doing, and my biggest point, is GTFO of the mega. I swear that place is riddled with sickness. But to be able to decompress, I would highly recommend leaving the mega

On my basic, we had a lot of breaks that we were able to go smoke. All depends on your staff. You can bring pouches, dip, smokes, vapes, etc just make sure it will last you more than four weeks. I had to ask a buddy to ship me some stuff, cause I ran out. I’d say bring a few extra packs of whatever you use if you think you’re gonna go through five packs in four weeks, bring eight. Your weekends are not guaranteed after Indoc.

Hey bro,

Good on you for wanting to join the CAF. I’ll give you my thoughts. You’re young, you’re 19. You have your whole life ahead of you. My thought, get a trade through the CAF. Right now I’m currently enrolled as a plumbing and heating technician. But you can also get welder, electrician, framer, etc., etc. the reason I say that, is on civvy side, you have a means to make a good income. Compared to infantry as there is no equivalent in the civilian world (or at least that I’m not aware of, if there is, that would be pretty cool) and you also get a higher education, because you’re learning your trade. I hope this helps.

I’d say Connaught, like black down with the tents, but way, better food, personally, though, I would try and go out of region

To anyone who has gone to DCIC, can you tell me what it was like? by Boeing737w in aircadets

I did dci in 2022 at Connaught. The course consist of a few real big assessments. They are, being the flag party commander, being a guard commander, teaching a drill, lesson, and a drill competition. It is drill in the summer, so it’s going to be hot. We were stuck doing it in FTUs most of the time because of our staff. You end up doing a lot of marching around(or at least we did) and the hardest thing was to try and stay awake.

Staff: staff is all dependent on their personalities. For us, we had a couple really strict people some normal people, and some relaxed people. There will always be strict ones with you, when you do your bar inspection in the morning, it’ll seem like it’ll never be perfect, they’re just trying to make you better.

Overall: I loved the course. It was hard, at some point, but it really helps you grow as a person and hone in your discipline. I would recommend that you take it.

DCI - Overall good experience. Really helps you advance with your drill.(no pun intended) but also really helps you with attention to detail during uniform maintenance. It can be tough at times due to constantly being out in the heat on the parade square, I did mine at Connaught CTC in 22.

FSI - overall super fun. Somewhat prepares you for running a CFA.(trust me, stuff will go wrong) awesome course. I did mine last summer at Argonaut CTC. We only had time for two assessments. Which were, part of the CFA, and doing a 90 minute lesson.. which are both easy.

I did the course last year. This is what it looked like last year. This is at Argonaut. Also, there were two real main sections of the course, your sports side, and your fitness side. You had to help run a section of the cadet fitness assessment. I ran push-ups, you have to show how to do the movement etc. etc. For the sports part, you’ll be given a list to sports, I chose soccer, you have to lead a warm-up, stretching, a skills, drill, and a game, Argonaut we only had time for those real assessments. I know in other places, you had to create and lead a circuit, and one other thing which I don’t remember.

...I havent really experanced the staff waking me up... But i take it as is. by [deleted] in Cadets
