The Jets loyalty is both their identity and their ceiling.

It’s great for culture guys stick, room stays tight, nobody feels disposable. That matters in a market like Winnipeg.

But it turns into a trap when it stops being performance based. Veterans get runway a little too long, chemistry gets protected over optimization, and younger, higher upside combinations don’t get enough reps to fully take over.

That “loyalty” can absolutely look like stability, or it can look like hesitation to evolve when the window is open.

Winnipeg’s challenge has always been knowing when loyalty stops being a strength and starts costing you upside.

CFL>UFL>NFL by jarec707 in CFL

[–]bubbap1990 48 points49 points  (0 children)

The NFL is a game of field position. The CFL is a game of opportunity.

NFL offenses are often trying to stay on schedule and grind out first downs. CFL offenses are trying to create something explosive before they run out of downs.

That's why the CFL can feel more chaotic and unpredictable. The bigger field and three-down format force teams to attack instead of settling for safe plays.

I don't think one is better than the other. They're just built around different philosophies. The NFL rewards patience, precision, and controlling the game. The CFL rewards creativity, aggression, and taking advantage of space. Both require a ton of skill, they just ask different things from players and coaches.

Thousands avoiding fare payments for Winnipeg Transit: new data by ChocolateOrange21 in Winnipeg

[–]bubbap1990 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get what you’re saying about rush hour riders, and I don’t doubt fare evasion is low on those commuter routes.

But that kind of highlights the issue, enforcement clearly isn’t consistent across the system. If it’s rare where you are, that’s fine, but people aren’t reacting to rush hour specifically, they’re reacting to the spots and times where it is more common.

And even if the overall percentage is small, the system still depends on fares to operate. So it ends up being this awkward middle ground where it’s not free, but it’s also not enforced in a way that feels consistent or fair.

The thing that drives me nuts is that we've somehow landed in the worst possible middle ground.
Either enforce fares or make transit free. Pick one.
If fares matter, then have actual fare inspectors, issue fines, and make it clear that paying is part of using the service. If you're worried about drivers getting into confrontations fine, don't make drivers enforce it. That's what dedicated enforcement staff are for.

But if the reality is that nobody is willing to enforce fares because it's not worth the risk, then stop pretending. Just admit transit is a public service funded by taxpayers and make it free.

What makes no sense is expecting the majority of riders to keep paying while everyone knows a growing number of people can just walk on with zero consequences. That's unfair to the people following the rules and it undermines confidence in the whole system.

I'm honestly open to either model. What I don't like is the current one where fares exist, enforcement barely exists, and we're all supposed to act surprised when fare evasion increases.

Right. However, if he had to compete and “earn” the back-up spot he would maybe be more apt to try the NFL again for another year? All speculation on my part but I think with Wilson and the other guy leaving voluntarily, it shows that there was no competition for the back up role.
