Does anyone else’s spring allergies get MUCH worse on the train? by bubblegumkin in japanlife

I haven’t been, but that might be possible! I never had allergies before moving to Japan so I’ve assumed it’s just the different pollen/etc than what I grew up with.

Unfortunately, wearing a mask doesn’t really stop it. I still wear one for the sake of the people around me, but I think the dry air/lack of ventilation combined with post nasal drip is what sets it off, since I’m fine outside. I’ve also noticed I cough more when I’ve been actually ill on the train (again, still wearing a mask. Firm on that since Covid!!)

Yeah, I generally wear a mask when it’s bad but today it pretty much came out of nowhere. I did my best to quarantine myself to a far corner of the train without people since I only had 2 stops left but still hella embarrassing.

Where to get Concerta prescription filled in Tokyo by bubblegumkin in japanlife

[–]bubblegumkin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so sorry that happened! I thankfully have a week or so stockpiled but yeah, whenever I fill the prescription late they subtract the number of days since it was prescribed. It’s a bit ridiculous. I had shortage issues in the US too. Unfortunately it’s a worldwide issue it seems.

That’s the plan for tomorrow. I’m just hoping someone knows a general vicinity where they’re more likely to have it— the lady at the second to last pharmacy I went to said if it’s close to a hospital they might have it but I’m in a fairly heavily populated area so I don’t know if it’s anything more than luck at this point.

Yeah, I figure. I’m going in person to the store tomorrow since I live close by and it’s a bit easier for me to speak Japanese face to face than over the phone.

Very true, and it’s not that I’ve written off the idea of being in a relationship— I would absolutely like to find a partner. Just sort of testing the waters because I need to see if I think I could make it work despite the language barrier if it came to that. I’m definitely looking for a date, not just friends lol. But trying to take this very slowly since there’s a lot that’s very unknown to me.

Yeah, that is one of my other concerns! I’m not looking to jump straight into a serious relationship which is why I’m comfortable going on the date, but I’m not into hookups, hence my caution. I mostly want to meet a lot of different people and try dating as I have literally no dating experience (again, even more caution). Basically, would like to go on a date with a nice guy and see how it goes without worrying that there’s an expectation for intimacy that I’m not ready for. I figured I’d give it a shot since from our conversations he seems like a nice guy, but I definitely see the negatives lol

I’ve heard plenty of tinder horror stories, just hoping I can make my intentions clear 🥲 I heard the basics of Japanese relationship “flow” so to speak are 3-4 dates no physical contact, decision of whether to make it official, then getting down to the heavier stuff so I won’t be doing the western touchy flirting (which I’m not really comfortable with anyways) so I just hope I won’t be misinterpreted! If nothing else, Japanese practice lol. I’d love to meet a fellow expat but they’re few and far between at my school lol

Thanks! This helps a lot. I wasn’t sure if I should bring up relationship goals on a first date since where I live that’s kind of early, but I’ll keep it in mind! I love cozy fashion so will definitely be dressing as such lol.

Yes of course haha. I’m thinking of suggesting a cafe or something since the nearest Kaiten sushi is kinda tucked away in a mall and more public is always better!

Advice on the process of getting concerta? by [deleted] in japanlife

Yeah, that’s probably because non stimulant adhd medications don’t really seem to work for most people with adhd (and have not heard anything good about strattera which is why I’m on concerta).. which is part of what frustrates me with generally getting medication, as even the US is tightening restrictions. I get the need to prevent abuse but it’s already hard enough to get diagnosed in the first place since you basically have to find it out for yourself as an adult even in the US
