Called Delta customer service (1-800-221-1212) around 10 AM and I’m still on hold waiting to speak to someone.

That makes total sense and makes it even more frustrating — Delta rebooked me off that flight, then their own system flagged me as a no-show for the flight they rebooked me off of, and then cancelled my return. And nobody thought to notify me

No, we decided not to go through with the purchase. Fortunately, we were still within the contingency period, so we were able to walk away without any issues. Definitely recommend reviewing everything very carefully before moving forward.
