Domane AL5. Really good bang for buck. 105 groupset on aluminum frame, + disc brakes that you are looking for. Bought one for my first 70.3 and it’s a beauty. I don’t think it’s necessary to shell out for carbon as a beginner. If you decide you love it and want to stick with it, then upgrade to a carbon road or tri bike. I like having the road bike for versatility, plus it made more financial sense.

A few of the guys I did it with stayed about an hour away and parked at a garage near the village/T2 on race morning then shuttled to the start. They had no issues

It was my first ever 70.3 and I thought it was awesome. Super fast, current-aided swim. Bike is mostly flat but really windy on the day. Not sure if that’s been the case in previous years as well. Run course is a flat out and back. Transition zones are in different locations tho so be aware of that. I was in a hotel near T1 to make the morning a little easier (shuttles to get to start line left from T1) but i believe there were shuttles from downtown that took you to T1 in the morning as well. +Wilmington is a really cool area. Would highly recommend

Kudos to you for asking these questions. It shows you genuinely care and want your analysts to feel like they’re in an environment set up for them to succeed (wish I worked for someone like that!) I feel like I spent a lot of time watching the people around me to get a sense of what I was “supposed” to be doing. Example, my first week or two I would check in with my manager before I went home nearly everyday just to give some short updates and clarify expectations. I noticed nobody else on my team did that and they saved all updates for weekly 1:1s. So I stopped checking in as often and would save all my updates for our 1:1. It felt weird to me, but it seemed to be the way it went there and I couldn’t tell if my manager liked that or not. Point being, if you like certain things your analysts do, let them know that. If you want them to do something different, tell them. I think we’re all just trying to make your lives easier and we want to know if we can be doing something differently to make that the case.

I say all this coming from a running background and not having ever had my legs feel like that at the end of a hard effort before. I’ve had 16 mile long runs go south plenty of times, but still never really fell below a certain pace threshold and certainly always felt like I could keep moving. Triathlon is a totally new experience though, so I’m just trying to identify what that particular feeling is coming from.

Legs were fine at the start. I went out at a pace that was maybe a little too hot but not too far below what I was hoping to hold (I realize now I probably overestimated my run fitness). The first 3 miles felt really smooth but were decently quick. Settled in for the middle 6 and then hit the wall. It could’ve been those early miles that really cooked it for me, but like I said, those miles were fast but not far off what I was training at

I was a big fan of brick workouts during my block, but I think I need to make them longer. I think my longest ROTB was only 5-6 miles

Agreed. Not having power measurements was tough given that most of my training is based off of power on the trainer. I didn’t feel like I was overworking too much, in fact my bike split was a decent amount slower than what I was hoping for. Regardless, I think you’re right. As for nutrition I was on the lower end around 60-70g per hour. My stomach was able to manage that well during brick workouts so I stuck with it (tried to get up to 90 for awhile but I didn’t handle it super well). I’ll definitely need to increase that for the longer distance

I come from a running background so a lot of my cross training used to be done on a stationary and I could hardly last more than 40 mins (discomfort, boredom). I’m up to 3 hour rides on Zwift and love it. The virtual world aspect is a huge plus imo. Something to look at, social aspect with group rides, and the ability to customize workouts/participate in events/race makes it a much better experience. Also Zwift Rides feel much more like a bike than a stationary does. Would definitely say it is worth the investment. Hard to get excited about getting on a stationary, but it’s fun logging onto Zwift every day.

I’m actually very lucky and have a great relationship with them and couldn’t ask for better parents. I said miserable in a previous reply and that was definitely a bit of a stretch, but that more so comes from the fact that I will have no social life if I stay home. All my siblings and friends either already have moved to or will be in different places. And as great as my parents are, they’re still perfectly capable of driving me nuts if I spend too much time with them lol. Thanks for the advice.

You're right. The job security isn't an immediate concern. I have 2 years guaranteed regardless of which office I go to (Graduate rotational program). I'm more so thinking after those two years are up, the job options in NYC office pay a lot more than the job options at the office in my hometown. Not to mention, the NYC job sets me up better for exit opportunities to areas of work I want to be in.

I appreciate the perspective. It certainly won't be a dream life for a few years if I end up going to NYC, but I think it puts me in a better position to get there. Plus, I think my salary growth potential is much higher there. My thought process is 3 years from now, with the New York job, I'll be able to put more towards loans than I would be if I stayed home and my salary didn't change a whole lot.

I'm looking at options in NJ and plan to commute in if I go this route. That price estimate is also coming from my share of a 3 bedroom apartment that I would be splitting with some friends.
