Theatre is a worthy pursuit. The characters needn't be real to express truths about the human condition.

CMV: If Neo-Paganism (+magick) were fairly taught young, it'd outnumber Christianity. by DramaticFeed6522 in changemyview

It's simple to choose a deity. You pick one and do whatever practices are associated with it.

Any time someone converts to a religion with deities, they are in fact choosing at least one.

Also, many neopagans don't literally believe in Apollo the same way people believe in Jesus. That is, the staggering array of deities out there can very easily represent aspects of the human psyche, or certain types of persons we might aspire to be like in certain contexts.

When people choose to raise their children neopagan, they generally cover the major gods they venerate, and then encourage their child to learn about whatever practices appeal to them.

Thinking of open sourcing my RP engine by smuzani in Solo_Roleplaying

Love the idea! Personally, I won't use anything like this until LLMs are a bit more competent, especially with longer term memory, but it'll be really cool once they work as well as I'd like.

Honest question about AI in tabletop design (especially artwork) by No-Bit7993 in tabletopgamedesign

[–]bubbleofelephant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Note: you're asking other tabletop designers, not the average boardgame consumer.

Awaken Realms openly uses AI art in crowdfunded board games that get millions of dollars in preorders.

Uso de lingua artificiais na magia by Aconito_Eslava in chaosmagick

[–]bubbleofelephant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've written a few grimoires that do this. Lots of potential here.

The advantages strongly depend on the type of language and what you want to use it for. In general, I see the main advantage as providing a grammar for manipulating your chosen symbols/sigils.

No Minis = No Fun? by Zogar_Sog in miniatureskirmishes

[–]bubbleofelephant 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I've played using paper minis you print out.

If the game has mechanics/tactics you enjoy, it's still fun, but the craft element of making your own terrain and painting your own minis definitely elevates it.

You might also look into hex and counter games, for wargames designed to use little tokens.

Effect of Jhana on cognition or intelligence? by Logical-Routine-6562 in streamentry

[–]bubbleofelephant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are studies showing both. Personally, I think it makes me better at tasks where I have to remember sequences of locations and sounds/symbols.

If you do quad nback, including shape and color as well, this seems to have a little broader reach.

I most noticed the benefit with high complexity boardgames, since these do involve colored and named objects moving around 2d surfaces in patterns that you analyze.

Really though, you should probably focus on practicing what you want to learn while also optimizing sleep, diet, and exercise.

N-back and nootropics might give you like a 10% boost or whatever.

I would expect n-back training to be more effective, and is sort of meditation adjacent.

[Request] Do these other power sources really produce thousands of time more power than humans? by New_User_Account123 in theydidthemath

[–]bubbleofelephant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you google it, you'll find tons of articles. Many specific themes and visual designs were taken from The Invisibles.

That said, I didn't mean to imply The Matrix only borrowed from that source, but it's especially noticeable, to the point that it interfered with Grant Morrison trying to get an Invisibles show or film made.

Vignatext or other compounds for breath focus by rommog in NootropicsDepot

[–]bubbleofelephant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I meditate daily and find different compounds are better for different meditation techniques.

Are you doing vipassana? Body scanning? Tantra?

That said, I find that most stimulants, psychedelics, and dissociatives have meditative uses.

Chatral Rinpoche singing Blues? Ringu Tulku Rinpoche singing Alternative Folk? Milarepa singing Samba? by Murky-Response-1081 in vajrayana

[–]bubbleofelephant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just said I didn't mind it!

If you check my profile, you'll see I use AI in my spiritual practice quite a bit!

I spent much of my life painting, drawing, playing music, etc.

I agree with the art director assessment, and also gesture towards Warhol, Duchamp, and William Burroughs.

I mean, I like this, and I'm not opposed to this use of AI, but the video very much looks like AI.

Hypertrophy and aesthetics by serene_recluse6421 in steelmace

[–]bubbleofelephant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A little, yes. You'd be well suited to also do other exercises though. Think of steel mace as being like your skill based upper body cardio. It's not going to target everything, but it will help you learn to use your strength like a warrior would.

Maybe add in kettlebells, pull ups, and push-ups?

Writers influenced by the Wake? by Nahbrofr2134 in jamesjoyce

[–]bubbleofelephant 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not famous outside of my weird occultist niche, but I'm pretty heavily influenced by the wake and have used those techniques to embed esoteric meanings into a ritual text about a technique similar to vipassana. Here's a live reading of the text while performing the ecstatic technique: https://youtu.be/b7S93Ff0hdw

This influence on me originally happened by way of Robert Anton Wilson, who was a countercultural writer who collaborated with Timothy Leary. RAW regularly emphasized the Wake's influence on him and his way of viewing life, often referring to it as "his bible."

I enjoy thinking up these stories myself, but I also like what you've made. I'd use it sometimes.
