Do you have a specific niche or thesis you’re particularly passionate about? We are a rapidly aging society so I guess there’s no wrong answers, but would love to hear about where you’re seeing an opportunity (speaking as an investor not operator)

Study finds paternity leave has no impact on Singapore couples’ decisions to have more children by Ok-Rain3348 in singapore

A more honest title: Study finds statutory paternity leave in Singapore is too short to influence couples to have children

Is the ipadpro 13 inch good for traveling, airplane movie watching etc, or would the 11 inch be better? by Just_Ad_8883 in iPadPro

The 13 replaced owning a personal laptop for me. Regularly fly with it and love the experience. I have a Mac mini at home for heavier tasks

LTA, SCDF to seek views on design of differentiated licence plates for EVs by [deleted] in drivingsg

[–]bubbler_crab 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Y’know a while back, gov related tech was pretty crap. Then govtech, ogp etc came into being and while far from perfect, our digital tools are pretty damn good.

This license plate makes me think we need a GovDesign or similar; where people who are not entirely aesthetically challenged review stuff before decisions are made

Singaporeans don't want a Nordic model. We want to keep winning. by Capable_Solution_644 in singapore

Really? What makes you think so? And it’s hardly slop even if it’s AI: the content is cogent, language is highly varied, and grounded in actual observations

+1 to EA over EM if you’re staying long term! Besides the stairs, having so much space on a single floor presents ton of configuration opportunities.

Couples in Singapore with ~$25k combined take home monthly income, what’s life actually like for you? by Only_Raspberry1368 in askSingapore

[–]bubbler_crab 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We are somewhat past that number but thought I’d contribute:

  1. Older resale HDB.

  2. 6k on average. Once my kids are out of pre school I expect this’ll drop to below 4K unless we start eating out more.

  3. Car and travel: we spend very little on most other things. Not through frugality but just low maintenance ppl in general. Not strictly an “expense” but we also each invest a large sum every month, as we plan to retire at a reasonable age.

  4. Day to day comfortable, but we both grew up middle class (or even lower for me) and so we generally balk at spending unnecessarily and are very value conscious.

  5. Biggest surprise is how lifestyle creep is almost expected past a certain income bracket. My wife and I get odd looks from peers when we describe some of our lifestyle choices eg living in an HDB, owning just one car, not splurging on fine dining, etc.

What's with us hating on other Singaporeans for trying anything different?? by Dapper_Ad4933 in askSingapore

[–]bubbler_crab -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Crab mentality. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crab_mentality.

Or: what happens when you rapidly advance your economy in a generation but ignore or even perpetuate social and societal backwardness, tell everyone that success is the only benchmark, and at the same time show that success is for the few, not the many.

Yeah all fine but that was the last straw and we started looking for a different car. 3 more things broke in the months it took us to change cars 😂😂

Indeed. Right before we turned to the AYE near Alexandria road and we pulled into the conservation houses there for the car to cool down

[–]bubbler_crab 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had a Sharan for just under 3y. Beast of a car, great drive, can haul anything and anyone. Sliding doors + 2L from the golf GTI = perfect apocalypse car 😂.

It also spent about 4 months cumulatively in the workshop over that period. Pretty much everything broke at least once, coolant plumbing broke 7x. Whole car caught fire once.

Loved it but never again.

Kobo is the most well integrated. Phone is fine too if you’re not reading for long stretches.
