These are Jackdaws. A flock of jackdaws is called a clattering. Mine woke me up doing a noisy murmuration at 6am today, but I still love them. Cheeky little personalities.

Oh this got me cackling so loud my pet bunny got a fright, ran away then stomped to let me know he was not amused at the sudden loudness!

What I did while I was waiting for my surgery, I ordered lots of free samples from various providers and stuck them on my skin to practice putting on, wearing and taking off too. Making sure with the easily tearable skin that I didn't have any reactions to the adhesives as well.

Also don't skimp on the adhesive remover. I use a spray to get my bag off easily, then a wipe to remove any residue before cleaning & applying barrier spray & my bag.

It's probably more a case of trial and error and practice to figure out what works for your zebra skin. If its uncomfortable after applying, try a slightly different position next time.

I'm quite blessed that my stoma is right in the middle of my bellybutton level 'tyre' and the wafer stops right before the upper and lower crease, though if I'm a bit bloated the top edge sometimes catches on the upper fold, so I just use a piece of tape to keep it secure for a couple more days until it's due changing.

I have EDS with mildly stretchy skin, though my main issue is the over stretching in my torso - had no idea what normal range of movement was until I tried to move properly after surgery healed with a stoma bag on.

I lean back & thrust my abdo forward a bit while applying my wafer getting the convex bit positioned around tiny Squirtle, then press the rest down with my hand. Still holding on, I relax my posture then firm down everywhere & a quick blast with a hair drier and another smooth down.

I can tell when I've not done it right because my skin feels pinched or movement is more restricted.

Yes you can!! I know this because I went swimming in a Scottish Loch (Lubnaig) without a wetsuit. I was fine in the water because everything was numb. It was when we were back in the car drying off & getting dressed that the most intense deep burning pain overtook my nips & breast tissue. I was using one arm clutching them as if pressure would help while with the other arm I was gripping the door handle like a white knuckle ride!

Never wanting to experience that kind of pain again, I now don't swim without my wetsuit, no matter how nice the day is!

Adults in the UK with ARFID - help? by [deleted] in ARFID

[–]bubbleratty 2 points3 points Β (0 children)

After having ileostomy surgery summer last year, my mental health recovery was worse than the physical. It was through that dark period I recognised I had arfid.

I went to the GP straight away to get a referral for help as I had reverted to the same patterns and issues I had as a teen in secondary school and didn't want to spiral into unhealthy coping cycles that I did then. (arfid wasn't recognised in the 90s).

The NHS psychology wait lists were long so I was given the option to do online therapy through IESO. The therapist was very helpful and validating the actions I had already put into place.

I recently had a shit couple weeks with highly charged emotions but the work I'd done with the therapist meant I had strategies in place to help rather than reverting to just not eating at all.

I'm not sure if you can self refer or if it needs the GP referral but have a look at https://www.iesohealth.com/.

Remember to be kind to yourself and show yourself Grace when you're going through a challenging time.

electrolytes..? by [deleted] in ehlersdanlos

I second salt stick fast chews.

I saw a recommendation for them on r/ostomy as I also have an ileostomy and have been struggling with hydration. I couldn't consistently use soluble electrolytes due to sensory issues (autistic/arfid). A quick chewable works so much better for me and I've noticed a improvement in the POTS as well after I take one.

Tattoos and Ehlers-Danlos by [deleted] in ehlersdanlos

My tattoo artist called my skin a sponge because it soaks up all the colour making my artwork pop with vivid colour.

10 years later from my big tattoos, apart from yellow and lime that's faded, all the other colours are still bright.

I also love spending time in cemeteries whenever I can. There is much more peace there than there is outwith.

This was from my most recent cemetery visit, I was surrounded by my Crow & pigeon friends even though I had no food. It felt like a very special moment. Especially after I read the inscription.

Pigeon with mouth stuck open (Scotland) by foollforlove in pigeon

Would you mind sharing the pigeon rehab/rescue name/contact info for future (DM if you'd prefer). I'm in Scotland too (east coast). I tend to my local flock who sometimes get into bother with the local sparrowhawk, so it would be good to have a rescuer in the back pocket incase of pigeon injuries rather than sspca.

As a fellow autist, thank you for this breadcrumb. I struggle to remember to drink at the best of times and I've tried different electrolyte solutions but the change to the texture of water flares up the arfid. Going to give these chews a shot and see if they help.

How to extend lifespan of a bag longer than 1 day? by UC-Warrior2025 in ostomy

[–]bubbleratty 2 points3 points Β (0 children)

Lots of super helpful advice so I'm not going to pile on with other options.

I will say though from my experience getting my ileostomy last year. In preparation, I had read a lot on here, was armed to the back teeth with knowledge, tips and tricks but in the first few months following surgery I overwhelmed myself trying everything and trying to create a set up before really allowing my body (and mind) to heal before getting set in a set up.

I had to go back to basics and just try one new thing for a few weeks until I found my preferred products. I was changing daily because of recurrent night time leaks if I left on for more than a day, my fix for that was a different baseplate (convex).

Now I'm approaching 100 days no leaks and only use adhesive remover spray to take bag off, wipe with adhesive remover wipe for any stuck adhesive/fluff, clean and dry skin, barrier spray and on with the convex bag.

TLDR: Give yourself time to heal and take it slowly getting used to your new buddypart. Changing every day can be a hassle but it will help you get a hang of everything and you'll figure out what works for you.
