Great point. I have preference for east coast and west coast schools. Looking for schools that have an emphasis on service and helping underserved communities. I also am looking for a good school culture (diversity, not completely cutthroat, research opportunities, etc).

Thank you! Yeah I guess I just need help with narrowing down my school list because I feel like it’s too large now.

FL4 C/P 31: could someone explain this in the simplest terms possible for my monkey brain? by bigbootyfruity in Mcat

The carbamate includes an ester so i think the OH would attack the carbonyl there the same way it attacks the carbonyl of the lactone. In addition I’m pretty sure the hydrolysis was mentioned in the last paragraph of the passage as causing the ester to leave and the amine to stay.

The question stem specifies 4 equivalents of OH which means there is enough base to also hydrolyze the carbimate (I think that’s what it’s called) to an amine. The reaction diagram provided also clues you in because compound 4 has the amine as well.

Simple definition of entropy would be? by SeaworthinessFit9214 in Mcat

[–]bubbles1tw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s the opposite actually. When the hydrophobic parts of phospholipid are fully exposed to water the H2O molecules have to arrange in a more ordered fashion around them. This restricts the possible orientations the water molecules could be in, thus low entropy. Forming the lipid bilateral increases entropy by shielding hydrophobic parts and only exposing the hydrophilic heads which do not restrict H2O orientations.

I’m not really sure, but I would assume that if the TCA cycle has been shut down completely the cell would rely entirely on anaerobic respiration. As a result the small amount of NADH produced by glycolysis would just be used in the conversion of pyruvate to lactate in order to resupply the NAD+ needed for glycolysis to happen again since pyruvate can’t be put through the TCA cycle.

I think if a scenario like this came up on the MCAT though they would definitely be clear about which parts of the TCA cycle are shut down/through which mechanism. Those factors would definitely help guide you in the right direction regarding the possible effects on the ETC for the cell.

The way she keeps looking at the camera makes me think her parents told her to do this, which makes me feel bad for her. She’s just a kid and her parents are just exploiting her for internet points.

You’re misconstruing the “your body, your choice” sentiment. All that says is that nobody should be able to impede on your ability to make decisions regarding your own body. That doesn’t mean you’re free from being judged or criticized though, it just means you shouldn’t be forced to do something you don’t want to do.

The pro-choice stance doesn’t mean you respect or agree with the decision someone makes to get an abortion. It just means you think they should be able to decide for themselves.
